smitty sled with wheels
« on: Feb 15, 2013, 11:29 AM »
I have seen some of the smitty sleds people added wheels.  I am guessing this is for pulling accross parking lots and other non snow covered or ice covered spots till you get to the ice.

Does everyone leave the wheels on when they hit the ice?  How do the wheels effect pulling in the snow?

If theres no snow, Ill just leave them on, otherwise they drag in the show making it harder to pull

I made two sleds, with two sized wheels.  The first one has lawnmower wheels, and the second have pneumatic 8" from Harbor Freight (on sale).

This one just folds in half, as the cross pieces are screwed in place:

This one fully disassembles.  .  Its very strong, and can handle allot of weight, the axle is a metal rod going across both to both sides.  It limits clearance, but is great for my use:

Im 210 pounds +/-, and have ridden both sleds down my driveway (I dont recommend it, but it was fun), so they will handle reasonable weight.  The air filled tires cushion the bait and power auger from too much bouncing around.

Hope this helps,

It does help.  I am needing to come up with something to just get to the ice seeing as they maybe making us park a long ways away depending on water levels.
