Does anyone on here fish just with hand line and no rod or reel? If so what results , pros and cons do you have using no rod or reel?

when i was younger we had a 1 foot piece of closet pole 2 screws and just wrapped the line up on the screws.  But i guess now i have moved to all poles.  Some of them are not the best and they get really cheep this time of year.

Years ago we used hand line all the time. It works but bottom line it sucked. Hard on your hands when landing a big fish, line storage was a pain, no matter how careful you would still get tangles etc.

I hand line for perch and walleye.  It is great to feel the bite.   I use a rod for lake trout.  Tough to pull in 100 ft. of line.

I cant stand tip-ups.  There is no connection between man and fish.

I was in 30 feet of water and my relation was in 100 feet of water, we were both just using lines and no rods. I have been thinking of buying a rod and reel. I was fishing in Saskatchewan for lake tout.

The dreaded gebu...me, I don't much like fishing with one.  Personal preference though.
