Perch Eggs -do you eat them-
« on: Jan 20, 2008, 03:44 PM »
How many of you fisherman eat the Perch Eggs.I've been eating them for years and I think there the best part of the perch, dip in milk and egg then breadcrums fry them up,don't over cook them, you might want to poke a hole in the sack because they could blow up and stick to the ceiling. :o

Are you guys serious?  That would be perch caviar wouldn't it?  What about other fish like crappie, gills, ...?

Sunfish eggs are pretty good, I have never cared for perch or crappie eggs. Rockbass eggs are nasty gross, dont even try it!

Love perch eggs!  My favorite ;D

I like to cut up the sacks, into a few pieces and fry them close to crispy...
Golden-brown maybe floating for awhile ;)

The buddy that got me to try them, likes to keep the egg-sac whole

Too milky weird that way, cut em into fingers and experiment!
Love them just as much or more than the fillets! Eat them Fresh!

Sounds like a Fear Factor dare to me, but I would try them if they were done up by someone that knew what they were doing. What about the perch or walleye cheeks? I have heard thats the best meat on the entire fish- just have never tried it myself either

I love them. My wife and I combine them with lentils, and sometimes mushrooms or mello root from our back garden/woods. A good whippen in the food processor and we spread it on crackers or stale bread. Good eats.

I usedd to think eating fish eggs was disgusting.....until I spent a weekend fishing for Shad out of the Antrim Lodge in Roscoe, NY  The chef there cooks them as follows:   Fry Bacon, reserve the grease.  Coat Shad egg sacs (whole) in flour, egg, flour again, then fry until firm in the bacon grease.  When done, wrap each sac in bacon strip, and serve hot with veggies/baked potato....YUM !!!
Don't knock it until you've tried it!!!!

The taste is good. It's all about if ya like the texture or not. I'll eat a few a year, but I wouldn't say that they're better than the fillets themselves. I've been eating them since I was a kid via my old man. He loves them.

I have been hunting or fishing almost everyday of my life. The rest have been wasted.

My woman would rather eat perch eggs over filets any day. Especially fresh ones that are medium sized, the jumbos are just not easy to cook all the way through.

I brought some to my neighbor lady 1 time last spring and she acted like I brought her a gallon bag of filets. But then again she likes to eat tripe, so there you go.

Filets for me, like someone said earlier, only eggs I eat are dead chicken babies.

After hearing everyone talk about them, I tried some last year.  I battered them and fried them like fillets, but they didn't really have any flavor.  The texture was kind of like cream of wheat.

My wife and I experiment with them all the time. I've mixed them with heavy cream and a boulinasie sauce and spread it over steaks or breasts. I poached a duck breast this past week and spread the eggs over the top. It was amazing.
