Lakeland man sets new world record with tiger muskie caught ice fishing on Otisco Lake

"Lakeland resident Tom Boise, 49, caught a gargantuan, 27-pound, 5-ounce tiger muskie through the ice on Otisco Lake Saturday while fishing in a derby sponsored by the Moondance Restaurant. The fish appears to have broken the existing world record for a tiger muskie caught with a tip-up, according to a spokesman today from the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wisc.

The fish was 44 1/2 inches long, with a girth of 22 1/2 inches."

Kevin called to tell me about the fish, I told him to tell Tom that it was a possible world record. So he called him back and he told Tom.

I knew the previous record because it was caught from Pontoosac Lake in Pittsfield MA which is just down the road from where I live.
Congratulations Tom. I am not sure if it gets much better than that.

amazing fish, i knew i should have gone out

and good job not trying to hide where/what you caught it on, but since it was a derby and a world record, i guess you couldn't have done that

does anybody understand the weight conversion thing because the weight it weighed was 23 something but the world record weight was 27 (the audio said something about a conversion)

They were talking about converting tenths of a pound to ounces because the scale they weighed it on measured in decimals. Not sure where you got 23 from other than I think he said he had previously caught a 23 lber.

actually, The last few seconds of the interview on the blog site the man who caught it said something about it weighing 23.45 lbs or something. I think he just made a mistake on the phone, as it also said several times it was 27 lbs. It was a bit confusing for me as well.

I believe it is a conversion on how long it was out of the water. They start to loose weight as soon as they are out.

Gentlemen ( and Ladies), It's been a lot of fun with that fish. I've heard from ESPN Outdoors, Field & Stream,Outdoor News and a few others. Dave Figura from the Post-Standard was great. Dan Bishop with the DEC has been great. I'm hearing from people and friends from all over the country. Funny Stuff!! Thanks to all for a lot of nice things that were said. NOW.....Rod & Gun Club Derby Saturday..It's a Major!! Tom
