This is my 6 year old son with the 22 1/2 Northern caught on a tip up with a nice size sucker with a quick stike rig.
He is the tip up man, I dont fish with them but he loves them. Now I see why. LOL

hitting bottom of hole and hook pooping out :( i dont like to gaff them, but i bought one so...maybe i will have to use it, plus i have a bigger auger to use just a small car without alot of room lol

lol i've posted pics of prob 30+ northerns, havent taken alot of pics nothing huge yet to get through the hole, usually when i go out i get 10 or sometimes more and ive been out over 16 times... i need to start getting some hogs though instead of losing them, might have to start using my 8inch auger lol...fishing has been slow lately to, should start picking up the last couple weeks of season

yah man thatd be cool, if i come up towards the river i will let you know to, i think my next trip might be out on champlain, i am looking to catch some burbot...but osgood would be fun, went there the other day and my cuz lost a couple nice ones, we only got in a couple small ones, but fishing should pick up

looks like you've set the hook pretty good on yourself there...come close a few times fishing with my boy when i'm in a hurry, but never that bad. did you have to turn it out or did you cut it??

Thats eyecatcher and he was lucky enough to have it happen twice last winter. We tried pushing it, pulling it.. he didnt like that very much, haha. Both times we wound up cutting the hook, wrapping it up and he fished the rest of the day like that. Once back to town the doctors simply froze his finger and pulled it back out the way it came which seemed odd to me.. thoses are really big trebles/barbs!

do you tie your own steel leaders? or are they already snelled with a hook? trying to figure out best methood i have tried both not sure which is best

Don't use steel leaders - Just tip up line. 60-100 lb test.

Got this one last year. We usually only catch walleye and perch at that location so we only use a 6 inch auger. Much easier to get through 30 inches+ of ice. Managed to squeeze this fella up. For some reason it looks small in this pic, it was a squeeze fit through the 6 inch hole. Caught him on a small swedish pimple with a very small treble hook while jigging for perch in the afternoon. Sure surprised my buddy and I when this thing hit! Didn't have a scale or tape but I guessed he was 9-10lbs.
