In Aroostook County.  Not as far north as JackSmelt, but far enough.

Welcome!

only if she was a keeper

Yeah, she's a keeper all right, an angel really.  Gets upset when I don't get out of the house to fish.  Insists that I get out a least one day a week and never squawks when I ask for an entire weekend.

Hey, I just noticed you're in New Gloucester.  My hometown until I was 22 (which was a long time ago).

That's a very good thing to do.  Not enough dads introduce their daughters to fishing.  I took my daughter and my son as soon as they were old enough and although both drifted out of it they sill remember the trips.  In fact I started a photo book for their experiences and they still have memories from many trips.  My sons personal best is a 22 pound Striper so far.  We kind of had to hold on to him since otherwise he might have ended up on the fishes wall instead of the other way around but he got it over the rail mostly on his own. Daughter is a bit behind him but possibly will catch up some day.  She lives and works in Vietnam at the moment so ice fishing is a bit unheard of and she had to explain it to some of her friends and co workers.

Thanks Jack, we’ve been getting out every week the past month. It’s her favorite thing to do and is always asking when we’re going fishing next. I love it, that’s the way I grew up and am so happy to pass it along.

I only got out to Schoodic a few times last winter and I need to upsize my gear. My tip ups had only 6 ponds test leaders and the few flags I got broke off.
I took my canoe out onto Sebec a few times and did well with small mouths

Born and raised in Western Maine. Currently residing in northern Mass...but the locals keep referring to it as York County??? ;) I've actually grown fond of being close to the ocean for stripers in the summer, but I do miss being near the mountains. I've also been pleasantly surprised at the amount of (small) ponds in the area that get safe ice earlier than I'd have ever guessed. Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer

Not from Maine, but wish I were.  Seriously some of the nicest people I've met in my life... except that one time, at a friends bachelor party, in Lewiston, where that dam stripper.... Nevermind.  Seriously, you are good peoples in Maine... Grew up in MA and have only had great times in Maine.  Sadly I live further south in central Maryland, but crazy as it sounds we get great ice, for this area of the US, at Deep Creek in western Md... last year measured 16niches at peak. Certainly no where near Maine levels, but the Walleye, Perch bigger than a 1960's Cadillac, with a sneaky native trout every so often, creates a great ice fishing fishery.  I've attached/posted a picture of my short stay ice fishing adventure on the Charles River between Boston and MIT along the Mass Ave Bridge about 4yrs.... I was promptly threatened with arrest if I didnt get off.... But I swear it's probably the only time Jack Taps have fished the Charles River in Boston.... Was hoping to pull up a hold over striper.  No luck though

4th generation southern Mainah and further back from Etna Maine. Still some true Mainah’s trying to hold ground in southern Maine. Watch out northerners with people able to work from home with internet you’re next on the target.

I sometimes joke that I'm a "Mainer by marriage," though most don't find it particularly funny.   Truth, tho, married a fine woman from Cumberland.
