With the first blizzard in full swing, the hard water is upon us!
-
Looking forward to another season on the Mountain!
-
I'm starting a pool for how many trucks go through the ice this year. Someone has to post a picture that shows the color and location. We'll keep a running total.
My guess is 7 vehicles this season go through on LML.
Place your bets......
Rule is it must be a total loss.
-
I’ll go with 5
-
So what counts as going in? Does just cracking the ice count? Or do 2 wheels have to be wet??? say the entire front end going for a dive??? Or does the whole vehicle have to be submerged???….And…do we award a prize for the dumbest driver of the year???
There are at least 2-3 that break the ice and go in at Regina Beach…..I’m a gonna say 9, that’s right Nine. A solid nine taking a dip in the mountain this year. Nine is a great number. No more, no less, a solid 9….😬👍
Place your bets......

-
i will tale double digits for the win Alex, lets go with 11 vehicles swimming with the fishes
-
None! This is the year noone will go through the ice. Everyone has learned from the past.
-
Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to catch tullibee.
-
Haha the lml curse is real, I've seen it!
-
??? lets hope no one goes through. as this could be a life or death situation for someone including you.. and could happen anytime at any lake at the start of the season right through til march.
-
Has it locked up yet?
-
The north end and Big arm Bay will be the first to have Ice. I tested Dellwood yesterday and it is walkable already.
Will probably try the north end in a week or after the next cold snap.
-
Has it locked up yet?
Yup they're walking on at RBeach.
-
Eight inches of ice at regional.
-
Is that up by Rowans?
-
Is that last mountain regional park ?
-
I assume he is talking about the very far north end of the lake… out by Simpson/Imperial, as it’s always the first to freeze up…
Way north or Rowan’s
-
Any reports from Alice / Wee too, Grandview beach areas?
-
Also Has anybody tested the ice out in front of Collingwood? I know a few people have used trucks to pull shacks on at Triple T(Big Arm Bay) I wasn't there myself just heard it from a friend.
-
I can confirm that there have been a few permanent shacks pulled on at Big Arm, as we were there yesterday. Where the shacks are, between the boat launch and the end of the road that goes straight north into the bay, the ice was 10-1/2 - 11". We walked out to an area close to the mouth of the bay and the ice thickness was 8", measured not estimated.
-
That sounds right the mouth of the bay and out into the lake always takes a bit longer to thicken up. I think I am going to try a walk out at Collingwood tomorrow.
-
Anywhere between 7 and 11 inches of ice at triple t today and out onto the lake. Lots of shacks and trucks on the ice. A bit thin for trucks imo but then again it's not my wife I'd have to explain things too. Solid 8 hrs of fishing with shawno and skunks all around.
-
Was out a triple t and Alice today, about 10 to 12 inches at triple t and about 4 to 6 inches at Alice
-
Good day North of Sarnia Beach, slow but fairly steady with a burbot, a Cisco, and a nice walleye. About 8” of ice.

Was at Midway yesterday walked out to about 32 feet. Measured ice at ten inches. Lots of frazzle (broken ice chunks that refroze ) near shore and in some of the bigger cracks you could punch through with a spud. Fishing was very slow with a couple of jumbos 2 Burbot and a few smallish perch between three people. May try again tomorrow probably a bit shallower this time.

If just the front wheels count someone dropped in at Fry's point today. So that's the first one. ???

I had such high hopes for people's intelligence this year... Looks like I lose!

If it wasn't a total loss, it doesn't count for the contest! We almost had an early start. Nice job buddy.

Has anyone be out at regina beach and how thick the ice is now thanks
-
12-13” ice North of Sarnia beach. Saw a couple of trucks on the ice in the distance. Good day aside from the wind!

Nice going waverider. Those are dandy sized pike and walleye. :)
WW
-
Well done waverider
-
I was at Midway yesterday I measured the ice and it was good enough for me to start driving on with the Durango. 15 to 15.5 inches. i didn't venture too far, fishing in depths of 29 to 32 feet. There were lots of perch mostly small but managed to catch 6 jumbos and two eater Walleye plus a couple that were very small. After Christmas the ice should be good to go for most of my fishing spots.
-
Anyone know how Collingwood is, any shacks out yet??
-
i heard some pretty bad preasure ridges around Sarnia, not sure if its crossable , or where.
-
just curious if there is a safe place to cross over from the west side to the east side outside sarnia beach
-
I know they’re not crossing at Glen Harbour as of Sunday. Was out just walking on to the point. Couldn’t see any truck tracks going to the barn. Just sleds and ATV’s. Lots of people out though. How much action another story. Mind you we were there just after lunch. Query anyone? Are they driving on at Kinookimaw(???) or driving down from Regina Beach or Pelican Point? No heaves at The Harbour but at Moors. Any at PP?
Take Care, Enjoy and remember to put the big ones back and any you don’t want as they all serve a purpose!

Welcome back hard water fishing buddies.
I’m late getting on this year but taking the shack out this weekend. Anyone having any luck in the Collingwood area?
-
The fishing was decent before the big snow and cold . I am wondering if Collingwood got the amount of snow we did in Lanigan and if they did it could be an adventure trying to drive around on the lake.
-
Hi angler Brian,
I was at Callingwood last weekend just to have a look. There is a ice break from the point going south and then heads west across the lake. There is a path over the break and heading north where people have been driving. There is lots of snow but I had no trouble with the truck. The fresh snow and winds may have altered that since I’ve been there.
Stay safe my friend and leave a couple of fish for me.
-
My daughter caught this 29” Pike the other day before the snow and winds came. Not much problem getting around in the 4x4 but
I am pretty cautious and didn’t venture too far off. Was a bit north of where you get on and just followed tracks. Don’t know how to read the ice well yet, so better safe than sorry. Yes it went back, of course it went back. I normally catch and release, the odd time I keep a few perch or a couple eyes
For a fish fry

Hi Everyone, have not made it out to Last Mountain for a week or so. Wondering how the driving on the ice was on the weekend. Hope everyone had some luck.
-
Crusty coming off on Sunday at Grandview, but doable with 4x4. Watch out for drifts and bring the grain shovel.
-
Anyone been on at Lewis or Etters lately? Just wondering how access is gonna head or Wednesday.
-
Anyone gone on at Arlington Beach? Is there access there this year? If not, where is the closest access near Arlington? TIA
-
Canyon Beach is near Arlington not sure about the access at Arlington but people were driving at Canyon before the cold snap.

Hi, we were at Collingwood also last Saturday. Made it out ok, not so lucky getting off. Hung up twice on the many snow drifts. Jeep Grand Cherokee. If it wasn’t for the kindness of strangers helping with a tow, I’d have been in real trouble. Went to the community out there with my shack. Hope this warmer weather this week will lower the snow pack. Fishing is slow…for us anyways. I think I will try to get over to Rowan’s instead. Has anybody been out that way recently? Michael

Nice Walleye Yesterday near Canyon Beach We had a decent day of perch fishing and a few nice walleye as the sun was setting.
-
Quality fish AB! The icing on the cake after a good day.
-
Nice fish!! 👍
-
I moved to Moose Jaw from the Lloydminster area this summer for work and will be heading to Last Mountain for the first time this weekend. I was hoping someone could give me some pointers on where to go for walleye and burbot. I've never caught burbot before and would like to reel in one or two or three. Thanks!

Good Morning fellow fisher people. I was curious what it like getting around on the lake? I was on Echo on the weekend and people were good on the trail then got stuck as soon as they were getting off the beaten path.
Thanks
Steve
-
So much snow this year! We’re at Collingwood and the big drifts are everywhere. Definitely need 4x4 and even then, no guarantees you won’t get stuck. Hope it’s better for the upcoming weekend. Mike
-
Was at Echo on Monday. Real hard going 4X4 is a must. Pasqua is worse!
-
Was at Sarnia on the weekend and several people were getting stuck including myself. Was very hard to see the drifts until sun came out. Not sure what anyone else was catching for fish but between 2 of us we didn't get a single bite in 2 days.
-
Went to triple T on saturday. You can get off the trails if you keep if pinned but youre probably gonna hit a 3ft rock hard drift and get buried eventually. I wasnt the only one shoveling myself out of one haha. Otherwise pretty limited to where the trails are even in a lifted 4x4.
Starting to wonder if i need to buy a set of chains for this winter. Doesnt sound like any of the southern lakes are any better, and the north is a complete write off for trucks.
-
Once your hung up even chains aren't much help. BUT they will allow you to go hard until you are Hung up.
-

Definitely wouldnt have helped get out saturday. Was trying to break a turn around trail and buried myself in a drift sidways. Ended up being able to spin the truck 90 deg on the spot while roasting the tires and back out. But i might not have been keeping it quite as pinned with chains.
-
Wondering if anyone has been driving between Rowans and Collingwood East side, was hopeing to move my shack this weekend ??? Wishful thinking on my part ???

I’m referring to “Marvin Lee Aday” aka
“Meatloaf”. Saw him in Saskatoon about 20 years ago with my daughter who was about 20 then. It was supposed to be my wife and I going. (My close to 50 years now “Chum” absolutely adored the music and lyrics, not swooning over him necessarily, “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad.” But “Mom” was guilted into having our daughter go. And this “70 Year Old Determined Pike” wasn’t giving up his ticket. Haven’t listen to much of that “carefree days” music for years. In fact took my User Name for this site from another of Meatloaf’s great songs. “Paradise By The Dashboard Light”. In fact when he sang that song in S’toon, it was with his daughter. I thought that was twisted.
Nostalgia aah….
Anyway just wondering if all who have got on the ice at LML with all this snow could inform all us, “Hooking Junkies” the location and how those trail conditions are?
After all “I’d, (We’d) Do Anything For Love, (Of Fishing)”!
Take care and respect this God given mutual Paradise we all enjoy!
-
The title I thought I put on my message didn’t show.
It should be slugged-
“We lost another Good MLA”
-
Meatloaf is what I'll be eating if I don't catch some fish soon. Getting tough to drive around and too old to walk far.
-
Anyone driving around Sarnia or white rock last few days? Can you access with a truck still, or is it ugly?
-
Also any info on Alice Beach/ Wee too access?
-

Was there yesterday, no problems in a truck but still watch out for deep spots
-
i use a winch and can put it in frt or back lol i dont shovel plus i have studded directional tires that hook up real well ,,, yarded out quite a few people last time i was out
-
Anyone been on at triple T since the storm? Planning on heading out tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning
-
How is getting on at Pelican Point?
After the burbs.
Any tips where any one’s catching them “On The Mountain” apprefishated!!!
May have to “resort” to Diefenbaker where I here they’re healthy!
-
Can anyone update what drive-on access is currently like on the west side (Sarnia, Lipps, Alice)??? Would like to head out tomorrow but first time out there since Dec.
And/or how much snow / how hard is it to get around on ice without getting stuck?
thanks fellas
-
I was at Alice last weekend. You can get on and around some with a 4x4 and by staying in other people's ruts for some of it. There is some clean space but not a lot. Be careful or go in a lifted truck with good tires. My shack is parked there and I don't thing I can move it very far.
-
Thanks IG8” ... greatly appreciated!
-
Is there any decent access on the north end of the LML right now? Etter's Beach, Triple T? Planning a day trip tomorrow from Saskatoon and trying to settle on a lake.
Wife is coming along so I gotta make it count. 😅
-
Triple t acces not bad, as long as you have 4wd. Just a little rutted at shoreline, then pretty much drive any where after that.

Thanks for the info pal!

I know access to spots can change from day to day, but, what's it like around Rowan's Ravine?
Can you still get out with a 4x4 or is it snow machine and walk on only now? :-\
WW
-
Anyone been out to Grandview recently? Thought I might head that way tomorrow, wondering what conditions are to get my wheelhouse out there? How’s fishing?

Yes it does. you need to fish east of 105°17’20”. everything west of that is closed till may 14th
-
Haven’t been myself but was told by a friend that there’s no access at Lewis with a vehicle
-
Hi gang, just wondering how many have been taking advantage of this nice weather and if anyone has the drive on conditions for Rowans Ravine boat launch or Collingwood areas?
I would think we're still ok for this weekend but was just curious if anyone had hands on info from being out this week, TIA!!!
-
no access at collingwood only quad or snowmobile was there yesterday.
-
Thanks Silverfish, it's that deteriorated already is it?
Damn i was hoping to giver er a go tomorrow. I imagine Rowans/Island View would be the same.

Has anyone been on at midway lately? Could a guy get on with a truck? Or would a quad work?
-
Has anyone been on near Triple T after this rain and warmer weather...? Hoping to get on Wednesday for a quick Pike fish.. any suggestions,
-
It’s Ugly!!!
I was out at Pelican Point about 3to 4 weeks ago and just realized I left a rod out there, an Ugly Stick. If anyone found it I’d appreciate getting it back.
Please message me as the reel has sentimental value too!
