With the first blizzard in full swing, the hard water is upon us!

Any word on the ice thickness at Buffalo?

9 inches of perfect ice up to about 3-400 yards straight out from the provincial park boat launch.

I was out yesterday too and measured the same. Hope to drive on soon!

Went out to the Provincial Park Sunday afternoon 1pm - 5pm.    23" of ice.  10ft of water.  No bites, nothing on the sonar.

Was out Sat and Sun. Out from main boat launch yielded one small perch in 3 hours on Saturday. Tried Buffalo Ridge Sunday morning from 8:00am to 11:00. Once Pike, and one other bite. Good thing it wasn't too cold!

How is it to get a round on Buffalo? Is everyone getting stuck?

Not too bad getting around but there are drifts to be weary of. If you don't venture off the driven stuff you will be fine.

Was out yesterday at Buffalo Ridge from 8-11am. The bite was light at first but picked up considerably as it got lighter out. By 9 o'clock it was game on. Mealworms were the ticket. Ballpark estimate is around 40 perch in 3 hours. Mostly keepers (although I know the black spots found on the meat seem to quell many appetites).

Nicely Done!! Gonna have a great fry with those! I've had decent luck straight out from the provincial launch. What part of the lake is Buffalo Ridge?

They tasted good indeed!

I am fairly new to the area so I will do my best. Buffalo Ridge is pretty much in the middle of the lake. If you are coming from Moose Jaw, you will take HWY 202 where it branches off from the #2 heading north (same as you would heading to the provincial park). You will shortly see Range Road 2262. Head left on 2262 and follow that until you get to the lake. You will drive through an RV park just before getting on the ice. Good luck!

Awesome thanks DM. I'll give that area a try next time I'm out that way.

Back at it today at Buffalo Ridge. A good human being plowed a road out to the shacks, but driving options are considerably more limited than a couple of weeks ago. Caught about 15 perch from 8am to 11. Fish around all morning but the bite was light. Managed a couple that touched 11" or better.

Got your spot all dialed in by the looks of it!

This week's recap:

Wednesday: Fished from about 4:30pm- 6:30 at Buffalo Ridge. My count was 16 perch during that stretch. The bite was light, and patience was required to not be too quick to set the hook. Managed 5 keepers again. All in all a good evening on the ice, however a lapse in judgement resulted in my Jeep and I sliding off the 2262 on the way home. We stargazed for about 3 hours waiting for CAA.

Saturday: Fished from 9:30 to 12:30, same spot, same approach. Managed about 29 perch this time, but a smaller weight class on average. Very light bite again, which is what I have encountered the last few times out. The bite was best before 11am, and slowed considerably by noon. A friend fishing with a camera nearby reported a big pike roaming, as well as a few suckers while they endured the slow stretch. I packed up and did not take any  downhill slalom courses in the ditch this time.

On a side note, I have noticed something on the skin of a couple of perch I have caught lately. The first picture attached below is of a white discharge that I observed while fileting one of my perch from a few weeks ago. I imagine a sack must have burst while applying pressure to the fish on the cutting board. Yesterday I caught another fish (see attached picture) which had some raised growths on the skin, with what appears to be the same white substance nearby. Does anyone know what this could be? I will do some research on my own but would welcome anyone's insights on this. I have heard a lot of people say they never eat the fish from BP, but I can't find any advisories or studies online to support not eating fish from the lake.

Happy Sunday!

What are the walleye like?

I have yet to snag up to any walleye. Haven't heard of anyone catching them either. My efforts have been pretty localized to one spot so perhaps a venture to a different part of the lake is in order..

I caught a small walleye late last ice season South of the provincial Park launch. Haven't seen one since...

Anyone know how it is driving around on the lake after the last snow and wind storm?

Last weekend was pretty manageable if you stay on the tracks and have decent light. That being said, with the melt underway, I am unsure of the conditions at the moment. I would think with all the shacks coming off there are some pretty good trails now.

Was out today pretty easy driving off the main boat launch but kinda got sloppy as the day wore on.
Ice is still taking my auger to the hilt probably going to put the extension on so I don’t break my back bending down on the weekend.
Bite was slow, hooked into some smaller pike and a couple perch. Kept a pike that was tagged that was perfecting eating size
In all my years of fishing never ever caught a tagged fish….was pretty cool
Couple more weekends left hopefully the bite comes on so I can get more than a nice tan.
Have fun
Be safe 😬👍👍

If you haven't done so, submit the info from the tag. It should be on the tag. If you have great! Helps with research.

Oh i did.  I measured, weighed it and even attached a photo and sent it in. I think it’s a great project. The fish itself was pretty damn tasty.😬👍👍

Walked out from the south shoreline at Buffalo Ridge yesterday, about 150 feet or so. Had steady marks the whole time. The highlight of this day was easily the 18'' walleye that decided my offerings looked suitable. After Walter spit the hook at the hole, a desperate right-handed hole scoop saved the fish from escaping. My (presumably) last day on the ice this year yielded 8 perch, the walleye, and a sucker in just over 4 hours of fishing. My tip up was even triggered, but the operator was too slow. Had a great time learning about BP during my first winter in Moose Jaw. Already looking forward to next season. Cheers!

I caught a tagged pike on Friday...does anyone know if I'm supposed to report it and to who? Poor thing was in rough shape. It was 30 inches but scrawny and beat up looking. Stomach was packed full of crayfish.
