Title: Ice on Lake Frances
Post by: Droz on Jan 08, 2005, 05:42 PM
Just in case anyone is interested, I will be driving up to Lake Frances tommorow to scope the scene.  I won't be fishing unfortunately but I will try to get a guage on the ice.  I'll post what I find out tommorow evening some time.

Just got back from the lake.  About 8"-10" of ice and not too crowded.  Hope this helps someone out.

Hi everyone- I went fishing at Frances last Monday and there was 10 1/2 to 11 inches of good hard ice. The fishing was lousy. The day was beautiful. Sure beats working ;D I only had four flags all day :-\ I didn't see anyone else having too great of luck either, so it wasn't just my lousy fishing ability to blame. Here's hoping everyone has a great and safe season. Stay on the dry side of the ice :D

Where on the lake were you fishing?

Hey Droz, what's up with that ESPN article you posted?  Regarding Lake Frances, the guy says, "...For both walleye and pike, it's hard to beat a live minnow fished either on a tip-up or just on a jigging rod. The smaller shiner minnows, in the 3-inch class, are good fodder for high catch rates, but if you're targeting big fish, size up your bait."

Although he may be right about it being the best bait, Frances isn't on the list of lakes in the regs where it's legal to use live minnows, is it?  ???

I didn't write the article, I just thought it was useful as far as it pinpoints some locations for good fishing.  Haven't been able to test the info but it's better than not knowing anything at all.  As far as the live bait issue goes, It's not legal to use live bait on Frances so either that was a typo or someone was breaking the law.  Probably breaking the law.

Thanks, Mike. And, it was good info otherwise.  I just hope it isn't an expensive typo for someone who shows up at Frances with a bucket of minnies.
