Snow Cat removed finally.
« on: Sep 23, 2020, 07:04 AM »
So I posted this in February 2019 that 2 guy's drove this out on the lake around midnight thinking it wouldn't fall through. They were drunk of course. They just now were able to get it out.  They used air bags to float it to the top, it was 60ft. Down.

Why the long wait? Seems like some section of Government would have been all over them.

I got the date wrong. It should have said February 2019. But they have been trying for a long time. They had it up to the top of the water earlier this summer and one of the bags deflated on them. Changing the date now.

Can't imagine the cost of that extraction on top of the fines.  What does the local/state government actually do with the fine money?

Can't fine the 2 dead people. They died in their drunkenness's. Feel sorry for their families but they were also warned not to drive it on the Lake.

30" of ice that is more than enough to hold a 15k machine.  My guess it was not 30" of good ice.  Too bad on the outcome.

The Lake it fell through gets a lot of snow in the winter so yeah not good ice. I have drilled up there and go 12" of good ice then 12" of snowpack and then more good ice. It is different  every year. The Mountain gets over 30' of snow a year.

It’s funny until you get to the part of the two guys drowning.  Drinking is fun but we need to be somewhat responsible.

Glad they got'r up. I'm sure every ounce of fuel and heavy fluid has leached out into that water on the GM. Sad. Nobody's got off easy with that situation.  30 years ago I spent some time on the sticks in a cat (Tucker and Piston Bully) during the ski season.  I don't recall anything resembling buoyant material in those things. An atv might float for a while or even a sled with skis might stand a chance at skimming across a rotten spot but I'd bet that thing hit bottom in 60 ft pretty quick.  God bless the families.  A rerun for the tragedy they already experienced.

Stay on top this season brothers!!

Found out yesterday that one of the guy's owned a towing company. When did died his dad took over the company and the tow truck that pulled the snow cat to shore was that guy's dad. Here is that truck.
