Eskimo Bucket Caddy Review
« on: Sep 17, 2020, 11:12 AM »
Has anyone used this bucket caddy before?  https://www.amazon.com/Eskimo-B07W99QDV2-33540-Bucket-Caddy/dp/B07W99QDV2/ref=asc_df_B07W99QDV2/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=385401159504&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1695899307748271489&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9006478&hvtargid=pla-843236060569&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=84216683408&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=385401159504&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1695899307748271489&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9006478&hvtargid=pla-843236060569

I really DON'T need to be buying this, but I kind of like it.  I have a Clam Rod carrier that does a good job.  But if this organizer would carry 4 rods (it advertises 2) then maybe I could use it to travel lighter in early/late season?  Does anyone have one and could you do a brief review?

I need someone to talk me out of buying this.  And maybe someone to talk me into it...   LOL

That Eskimo caddy looks cool, it's now on my toy list this fall. My concern with it is the same as with the one that was made by HT, I think? I like to carry my buckets in milk crate racks, mounted on the snowsled or other machine. The buckets won't fit in the milkcrate when in the caddy/sleeve.

I bought a Bucket Boss some 30 years ago that was similar but intended for car was stuff on a Wally World end cap for $5. All the pockets were open made this heavy rubber mesh. I can't see it being used as pictured. I'd think the tipups and skimmer would be top heavy enough to fall out but that's what the bucket's for. Zip storage would be nice for lure boxes, accessories and the like and the rod holders look functional.

If you're serious shop around for similar products not necessarily intended for ice fishing and you could save some $$.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

That looks pretty slick with the zippered pockets. I have one for tools that I used in the past, pretty sure it's a rigid branded one, lots of pockets but all open, even inside pockets that worked as rod holders. What I didn't like about it, and why I quit using it, is that with everything outside the bucket like that, it takes up a ton of room.

I admit I kind of wouldn't mind having that Eskimo one though, for those days I'm out in the hub and not trying to pack everything into my little one man flipover sled. Or early ice, you could probably pack almost everything into it besides your auger.

i have this one https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-bucket-caddy which i didn't get a chance to use yet - the eskimo looks much better but the bps version was $8 last winter and I couldn't pass that up. Other than durability the big pain points of these bucket jackets are zippers freezing and keeping them firmly attached to the bucket

I have one of these too https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/productive-alternatives-rod-lodge - it works great but is a pain with more than 3 rods

These work excellent and are very affordable http://htice.com/stealth-tip-down-ice-fishings-most-compact-versatile-tip-down/ allows you to run a tip down with no added weight or bulk on early ice

I drag my gear out in a flip over.  I bot a Gander Outdoor rod case and it fits 4 rods nicely. That rod case works better for me than standing the rods up in a bucket. PS: GO has the rod case for $15 plus shipping right now. Good luck.

Thanks for the input everyone!  I think esox_tm makes a great point about it being top heavy.  My scoop is all metal as well, so that would make it even worse.

After further consideration, the only time I would use it would be if I'm not taking my auger.  I have a heavy auger, so if I'm taking that - I'm taking my sled.  If I'm taking my sled - then I might as well take my rod case.  Better off saving my money for a bigger upgrade in the future.

These work well for me and fit rods or polars very securly. Leaves the whole inside for gear, they are available at Beaver Dam.
