Crimping http://www.leadertec.com/tipsandtechniques/crimp_techniques.html
I recommend buying a line that is made for tip-ups.I tried the braid I use in the summer years ago and had problems with it freezing up.My recommendation for tip-up line is #1 Woodstock #2 Woodstock and #3 Woodstock "Woodstock™ Tip-Up Line Woodstock makes some of the toughest, yet most subtle tip-up line around. Its unique round configuration and tightly braided nylon make the line exceptionally strong and manageable. The line is subjected to a three-step heat-set and waterproofing process that reduces stretch and freeze-up. You won’t find a tip-up line that performs better, is more durable or has more hook-setting power. Made in USA." If you have just a couple of tip-ups I would pick up a minimum 100-yard spool for each one (200+yard spool if it's for lake trout)If you have several tip-ups you may want to consider 1000-yard spools.I typically use 20-pound test and fill the spool. Then I run a 6-foot fluorocarbon leader, Spiderwire for pike, and a 12' or longer fluorocarbon leader for Lake Trout.I recommend a full spool or at least 3/4 full. It flows better and helps when they take a long run on you.I really like SpiderWire leaders for pike.It has a small diameter, flexiable, and harder to see than heavier leaders. I have had great sucess for years on this set up.I have been told you will loose more fish on this setup but I dont remeber the last time I lost a pike and have caught several over 35"Good Luck All
