Anyone have any luck using the large lipless crankbaits, like the Rippin Rap #7 baits, through the ice?

I havent used ripping raps often through the ice but i have caught fish with them. I personally have caught lake trout and have friends that like to rip them for pike. They're not a top bait on the ice for me by any means but they have their purpose for the days when your normal techniques aren't producing.

We use them for perch- smaller of course, but they call them in from great distances when ripped upwards to produce vibrations. I would bet they would do the same for lakers.

I use the livetarget golden shiner in 2 3/8" size. catch small and large walleye and perch on it. Here's the smallest one lol.

Thanks for all the feedback.  I got a good deal on the Rippin Rap #7s and figured I would give them a shot under the ice.  Wanted to see if there were any limitations or other issues.

Really popular bait on Lake Winnipeg for greenbacks.  It's awesome when one of those tanks smacks your rippin rap right as you start ripping it up, like sinking the hook into a log!

when "suspend a strips" came out, I used them to weight rattle traps so they hung nose down and fouled less on drop.  yes they call in fish from long way.  bass and pike love them!  go tiny trap size and get huge crappie. for some scent I glued a strip of Velcro on the back for power bait to cling to.

you bet they will catch fish!
