Yes, it does hurt, especially when its about 2 degrees out.

How do know?  Did you decide to try it just because you saw my avatar?   

Yes, I've done it.  It only hurts for about the first 10 seconds.  After that you can leave it on for quite a while and it really doesn't get any worse.  I'd much rather clamp than have a piercing.

i was in school one day and some friends dared me to clamp one to the bottom of my ear, i think that hurt more than the nose would have.

Long before Ice shanty, and several times since.  Just seems natural.  Still suprises me how much it hurts.
