Tip up tags
« on: Jan 20, 2015, 09:27 PM »
maybe this has been done before but Ive got a lot of stamped copper trap tags and I had the idea of using two part epoxy to secure the tag to my tip ups that way there is no confusion as to who's tip up it is.

What situation would you be in to confuse others tip ups for your own?

I like the idea.
On mine where we fished in groups of guys I bought some paint markers. Mine had yellow and purple stripes while my budies had none.
If you have the extra tags why not?
Might also help if some of your gear gets lost and someone finds it. A friend had that happen due to a sudden storm that hit him on the lake. The guy called the phone number on the gear so he could get it back to the rightful owner.

If I remember correctly one of (or more) the states have to label their tip ups w/ name by regs.  I am pretty sure I remember seeing that in here...

I just use the mailing address labels with clear tape to hold them on.Easy to use and change if needed.

I used a couple of small screws and my trap tags on my Heritages, works well!

I've used both trap tags (screwed into the wood on either end and then urethaned over) as well as clear mailing labels (simply stuck on).  I like the look of the trap tags much better but the labels are easier to change when your address has changed.

I just wrote in sharply the first letter of my last name on a certain spot on every tip up and have never seen anyone mark their tip ups the identical way. And sharply is easy no messy epoxy.

I went to the trophy store and had some name plates made up outa the plated plastic.  size is just right that I can screw it into the end of my beaver dams and it looks like it was meant to be there.  I also drilled an extra hole into it so I can hook the treble into the name plate when i store the tip up.  Costs a little bit, but all my beaver dams are custom and I wanted to keep them looking good so it works for me.

But you can loan your tip ups to a friend and not have to change the name on them. :cookoo:

I wish they would let the trappers put their trap tags that only have their drivers license number on them.  I guess the CO would have to go to his vehicle to check DL number so it would be a problem.

I used to have my name and address on my traps until they OK'd Dl numbers. Simpler when you moved.

But TomTurkey, then you would have to complete a Trapping Certification course to ice fish plus all fish caught would then need to have a CITES tag issued by the DNR before leaving the ice!  ;) ;) ;)
Honestly, my fingers smell like that from fishing!!

I put those "free" address labels from RMEF or DU on mine, then cover with packing tape.  They have lasted 5 years so far!!

The older you get the more return address labels you get in the mail. Perfect for tip-ups. Cover them with clear packing tape for more permanence.
There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the ice looking like an idiot.
