Year of the crappie
« on: Feb 07, 2014, 04:57 PM »
Hi Gang. I am having a stellar year on crappie here in SE PA. Many are small to medium but wow there been a lot. I have caught gills perch and bass also but the crappie have stolen the show. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

We've been catching hundreds of crappie and loving it. They're quick to rush up and take a jig.

We've been doing well with crappies in SE PA too. Caught a bunch today when it was snowing. They outnumbered the dink bluegills today.

Just found a place selling ( Rosie reds) anyone used them on crappie? How do they compare to shiners?

My best ice season by far. I wish I had known about the ice shanty tournament. I have 2 -16", one 15" and 3 at 14" . A guy came from over 500 yards away to ask if he could help me land one of the ones that were 16". I had to chuckle when the next weekend I saw him and two of his friends with 15 tipups spread across the whole area where I caught him.

As I said when I started this thread "year of the crappie" It has only gotten better. Been some decent LMB showing us as of late. Its been the most enjoyable ice fishing season Ive had in a long time. I am however ready for Jack frost to loosen his death grip on us. Ready for some warmer temps and some open water fishing

Yea. I would have been glad to help these guys out. All they had to do is ask. You catch more fish when you follow the fish and not the fisherman.
