Ice Sonar question
« on: Sep 22, 2017, 08:21 AM »
I know there are many ice fishing sonars out there. This year I would like to get one to go with my betty. Which one would you suggest? I was looking at the Garmin striker 4 but I have been seeing a lot of mixed reviews.

I look forward to hearing your views and wisdom.  ;D

I would suggest a unit with zoom.

I have the  lowrance  4 & 5.   Love  them both. I mainly fish 20 ft or less 90%  of the time so the 20* ducer doesn't bother me. If I fished  deeper water more often I would look  harder at the helix line I think their ducer is to cone degrees and the garmin can change from 8-24 *.   Good luck on your choice

I was looking at Garmin Striker not too long ago.  I ended up going with a helix 7.  The main reason had to do with the maps.  If I remember correctly the striker series does not have the ability too add maps of any kind, only allows you to save waypoints on a blank screen.  I like to have the lake as well as contours.  Striker does make one with maps but I do not remember the details.  Garmin is a great unit, I just found a deal on the helix and went with it.

I don't have a lot of experience other sonars but I use the Humminbird Ice Helix 5 and really like it.  It has made a tremendous difference in my catch rate.
Good things come to those who bait.

I just love my old Garmin 400C, I have had it for over ten years and it has never failed me. It has a split zoom and great sensitivity, see's a 3/8 ounce jib 2 inches off the bottom in 50 feet of water. A great addition to my fishing gear. I bought it new in the box off of ebay for $240
