NEOS Explorer Stabilicer Overshoe
« on: Nov 16, 2018, 09:20 AM »
I'm reading that they are warm enough but since studs are on the outside part of the sole not always the best grip on ice.   Has anybody added replacement studs to ball of the sole(middle  of sole) and to middle of heel?   Will they stay and is sole thick enough?   Thanks!

That is the only problem with them I have.I feel it isn't  terrible it would be worth a try to add some. If I come up with plan I will post it.

I like mine and haven’t had an issue like you describe. I do tend to walk a bit more on the outside edges of my feet so that would make a difference. I rotate the studs as they wear. With my first pair I did learn the hard way that you don’t want to put the studs in with an impact driver. Tried to get them out and they were set in so hard that the inserts on some broke loose. They didn’t fall out but I can’t get the studs out unless I dig the entire thing out. Oh well...live and learn.

As I said above. I like mine because of how light they are and by wearing a pair of tennis shoes inside of them I have better arch support which means spending a day on the ice doesn’t wreak havoc on my back.

I wear them every day at my job from October through May. I have never felt like they needed more traction- just adjust your movements and be aware you are walking on ice.

I added some studs up the middle after feeling some minor slippage-no problems going into their 4th season now.

What did you use for studs?

I use #8 x 1/2" hex heads and install using a cordless drill with 1/4" driver. Here's one pair of the wife's ice boots I've studded-zero slippage, just stay off the wood floors.

I've been wearing these over a pair of steel toed uninsulated work boots for two years.  No issues with my feet staying warm.  My biggest issue with winter boots is my feet sweat and then I get cold feet.

I love my Neos.  Never have cold feet with them on. Not that great for traction on ice with no snow though .Even with studs.  I wear my regular workboot style boots with cattrack cleats when on slick ice. Neos great in slush or very cold temps.

Tighten the ice screws with the tool before you wear them outside for the first time. If you forget you’ll have some missing after the season. Heads up
