Shimano binding
« on: Feb 12, 2016, 12:25 PM »
Anyone have a shimano sahara 500 that is difficult to turn after a day day out on the ice?  Bought this reel a year ago and only used it a few times for ice fishing. After my trip out yesterday I noticed by the end of the day i had to force the handle in order for it to turn. I was in a heated hut so it was not from the cold. Anyways I left it indoors overnight and it was still hard to turn this morning, but eventually started working again. Anyone have any suggestions as to what would cause this?  Never had a reel do this before. Thanks

I beilieve they fixed it in the recent models, but I've had the friction ring go bad in a shimano before and it sound just like what you're experiencing. If you're comfortable stripping your reel down it should be easy to diagnose.
