Storing Ice shanty
« on: Feb 27, 2003, 03:25 PM »
I just built a permanent Ice Shanty this year and I'm wondering if there are any helpful tips to keep is from getting wrecked.  Basicly I think I will store it up on some blocks.  I hope the mice don't build nests in the new insulation!

Put some moth balls in there.  I store my boat outside and I put moth balls in all the storage units and even in the motor area.  I use butter containers with holes in the top.  Never had any trouble.
Bring on the ice!!!!!!!  <br />

I use dryer sheets instead of the mothballs to keep mice out.

"can't use it nine mos. out of the year"? what do you mean? mine comes off the ice in March and is used for temporary storage until I put all the winter stuff away and get out summer stuff. In May it becomes a playhouse for the kids through the summer, and in the early fall it moves down to the woods to become a deer hunting blind, then in mid December it comes home for any repairs and cleaning, then back onto the hardwater in Jan.
Brace your feet! Them flags gonna start poppin any minute!!

Spearment oil works as a rodant deterrent, and don't leave that smell moth balls do.
