Lightweight skid house construction?
« on: Jan 09, 2019, 01:07 PM »
With all the snow this yr I am thinking of building a very light weight skid house, originally had thought about using an aluminum frame with aluminum studs and aluminum sheeting on the outside and then spray foam everything for insulation and to help hold it all together but with the price of aluminum so high now was wondering if anyone had any other ideas on how to construct a lightweight house. I would be hauling it on a seperate trailer to the lake.

What size shack are you looking to build? I built this 7'x8' shack (with a 4'x8' base) out of 3/8 plywood and 2x2's and it's light enough that I can lift up each end. Fits in the back of a truck or on a trailer and seats 6 people comfortably.

I sell construction plans/material cut lists if you are interested, just search for ice shack plans on ebay.

The more I fish, the less I know about fishing...
Send me a PM if you'd like info about how I built my ice shack

Yup, aluminum is expensive. Did my 8x7 alum frame last year. One and a quarter sq tube, spool gun welded. One inch rigid foam insulation.
