I'm sure people are sick of seeing this, I posted it about 600 times around this site and this post is no exception. Considering renovating it to 8'x8'. Maybe there could be an HGTV show --shanty hunters or DIY network--the shanty remodeling show

-
Your 100% right, vermonner. :) Like me. ::) The shack, will always have to be bigger! ;D
-
we usually have close a foot or two of ice by late december 8) then anywhere from 2-4ft. of ice the rest of the season here
the shack has enough room to fit 5 people with two holes each but we had 9 people in there this winter using one hole each and tip ups outside and it still had a fair bit of room, could of fit a few more people befor it got crowded bad. and this isnt a big shack, some of the ones on the lakes i fish are twice the size. ;D
-
lord help my wife... i wanna move even further north ....can they tax you for 4 months on the ice house ;)2

Is that a crapper next to you in that portable?
Fredster
-
I thought it was a bait bucket.
-
Yep. One of the best investments I've made. Comes in handy and serves as a third chair.
-
Here's a couple of pics of mine. 4*8. Woodstove made out of propane tank. Shack is solid, but not too heavy. Easily moved with my sled.

So what you are saying is.... ITS THE BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE!

here's a link to mine, mostly of my portable

;)
-
Rockhound: One of your pics mentions putting snowboards on the bottom of the house for deeper snow. Another option is using waterskis. I've used them and they work pretty well. They are wide enough that they mostly float on powder.
-
Here's a few summer pics of my portables, (and my son who LOVES to fish out of a "tent" :cookoo:) I finally got a phone with a camera so this winter I'll take a few of my set up on ice ;D

-
Wow! Those photo's were from a phone camera?
-
No Bear ;D Those were from my wifes digital camera. She doesn't like me to take it fishing with me though, something about me breaking things  Thats why I got the camera phone
-
I'm not set up to post pictures on here yet (probably too old and computer illiterate). If you want to get an idea of what I use go to www.hayfieldind.com and look at the 6 1/2x 12" model.
-
Pretty nice ice dawg. If I had a home on the ice like that I wouldn't see my wife until spring, lol. Hmmmm I wonder if she'd miss me?
-
There are a lot of fancier ones out there, but all I need is a place to be warm and a place to sleep. I had a Palomino popup camper that I converted for ice fiahing and my son and I fished out of it for about 8 years. I put it up for sale last winter and since it didn't have the wheels that lift up no one wanted to pay much for it. I figured that since people wanted me to give it away I would. I gave it to my nephews and they will be using it starting this winter. It has a three burner stove, bunks, 12v lights and cupboards. It worked great for me for a long time.

KEEP YER STICK ON THE ICE!!!
Ahhh, Another fan of Ontario's finest  :roflmao:  :roflmao: :roflmao:
-
We retired ours two seasons ago and bought this one for a song last fall... with the ice not thickening til February we opted not to put it out last year.
Needs exterior paint, runners (those are just 2X4's to keep it outta the mud), a bunk over the wooden bench and we wanna insulate that steel tank to have a permanent aerated bait tank out in the shack. Oh yeah, a weed eater to bushwack our way to the front door

Here's the bench and bait tank.

Pretty heavy and the wind really beats it up but if done right it will last. We made one in High School 15 years ago and it still goes out 10 to 12 time a year with us. Here are a few of that one

I built one like that and used it for about 10 years and bought a flipover. I kept a little of that snow snake medicine in mine also. Ya never know when ya might just step on one. :o ;D

Nice lets see some more

Well, here is the one I've used for the past 3 years. She sold last weekend for $400!!!!!!!!!! New shack will be started next week. It should be pretty awesome. My buddy and I have built 6 hardsiders over the years and we think we finally know exactly what we want.
Anyway here is the sold shack.

When you do, will you please tell us? I am on my 4th shack, and usually have plans for the next one started before I've finished the current one!

The one that sold was 8'x8'. The new one will be 8'x10'.

This one was called 'IceHoles" or "I1". I helped build it and later purchased from a friend we call "Kapt .Overkill".
It fished 3 guys nicely, had built in interior, exterior lighting, stereo and a TV running off a power inverter and some deep cycle batteries.
It was a great shanty but was not ideal for CT.I could not leave it on the ice for fear of vandals and had to remove it after each trip which became a royal pain in the a$$.It was also heavy and to low to the ice. So I sold it on Ebay to someone in Maine for a smelt shack last fall and purchased a Frabill Ranger XLS portable.

lets see some more photos im building another hard side and want to get some new ideas

I built this for myself for last season. Most materials were salvaged from garbage etc. I might have $20 into it. Used Cazy Crpaet on the runners
-
Very nice, Bellybuster! Looks like you might need to make a 3 holer! Looks like you have two aspiring ice fishers to help you out.
What did you use for the cover? Did you sew it?
