Bigskyxj - where did you get your chest from? Did it come with a tray?
It looks like I could use one.    @)

Here's my sled, fits perfect inside my Clam hub Base Camp when needed! Keeps everything nice and tidy and within arms reach at all times...

Camera makes things a bit more interesting for the little ones...

And makes for a great ride off the ice for the boys...

Here are some photos of my new sled. Still working out the kinks, but so far, I'm super happy with it. Smitty inspired smitty/sled/shelter all in one.

Sorry for the link.  Haven't mastered embedding photos yet.

jmorain, are you a cabinet-maker? Did you use plywood, or all solid pieces in the sled itself? The oak pullover framework is very impressive. Its quality makes it destined to be an antique one day.

Very nice work.

Thanks for the compliments!

Mostly plywood construction. I needed something light and strong for the frame though. I've done a little boatbuilding, and by comparison, those were easy. Straight lines and 90 degree corners. The triangular splines add a lot of strength, and with a pretty simple jig (the wood working kind, fellas) the slots are pretty easy to cut with a tablesaw.  I'm going to rework the drawings using what I learned on the build, and In the spirit of smitty and ice shanty, I'll make them available to anyone who wants 'em.

I am looking to build a sled with skis as the runners. I was wondering if you just drill
and screw up through the skis to attach the wood risers?
I am getting a lot of good ideas from the thread so don't hold it against me if
I post a picture and it looks similar to somebodies sled.

Yeah throwback, just drill through bottom of skis. Make sure you countersink so the heads aren't sticking out. Finally rushed mine together on friday night and took out saturday. Had some wobble but was still significantly better than sleds on their own. Made some tweaks this aft and it should be much better for the next trip out.

I don't know if all ski's are like this but mine had a layer of hardened steel sandwiched between the layers. Man it was a chore to drill thru them. I really didn't expect that.

Morning fish4all,  (( Very Nice Sled ))

Hope you and yours are doing well this holiday season.

Just wanted to mention that I love your idea of the side of the sled lighting system.

I think it is a excellent safety item for so many reason.  being able to be seen from a little distance on the ice as well as giving you
that security of just walking around the area around the sled Etc.

Thanks for showing your ideas.  Very cool.

  Cheers,

  AltaIce
