How was the overflow were you guys were at?  We could barely get off the trail were we were which made for some pretty crappy fishing, that and I was sick as a dog.  I hope you guys let that burbot go its getting close to the spawn and we need those big girls to pump out some eggs.

got there on sunday at around 2:30 pm due to a late night from the night before. got our camp all set up and started fishing. had 5 flags go up and got 2 of them both were + or - 27 inches. then we both missed one on our jiggen rods. picked up the lines and went to the bar. when we came back in the midst of putting our tip ups down my buddy kicked his into the hole. 30 minutes later i felt something on my line and reeled up his tip up line that had the eel pout on the other side of it so it was a double score he got his tip up back and i got my first ak pout. monday we missed a few and i ended up getting one that was around 33 probably maybe a little bigger.

i only have one question where to start fishing on the lake i would love to go up there for a weekend but have no idea where to start.  i was guessing around the channel would be a good start but i dont know and i dont wanna just start punching holes all over the lake because i would run out of gas before i got around too far.  any info would be much appreciated

#1 Add your location to your profile.

#2 Understand that it isn't a very forgiving place. An error could be costly.

#3 Having the right gear is important. If all you have is a short track snowmachine..... stay on the trail...... usually.

#4 Why anyone camps out at the channel amazes me. 5 years ago maybe.

#5 No more off sale at the lake. Nearest beer run is Glennallen area. Have what you need or do without.

#6 Unless you know people out there, you have no margin for safety. Be prepared. I did 3 days at -48 and will leave after the first 5 minutes in the future. I broke helmet plastic, snowmachine windshield etc, froze track up and had to weed burner it and then after being plugged in for 3 hours my (and everyone elses) truck took 5-7 hours to get started.

#7 Carry red and yellow Heet. Always run red..... when you are in trouble use a little yellow to clear ice out. I said a little.

#8 Know your way around. I know the lake and still bought a Garmin Montana. Visibility was 200 yards or less when I came out last Sunday. Add darkness, no moon and no direct knowlege of the lake and you could be in trouble.

#9 Load the lodge phone numbers in your phone. Troopers too.

#10 Take notes. Baro pressure, temps, moon, etc.....

You forgot:
#11 Take spare augur blades, you can find bottom anywhere on that lake.

#12 Depth map would help avoid striking bottom and having to use #11

Ever watch a movie called Shooter? 2:06

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn60YWO218k

The depth maps are wrong in alot of locations. Ever auger to 3 1/2 feet only to get thrown 10 feet due to rocks? It hurts.

If you aren't taking into account fishing pressure such as forage fish netting.

If you aren't looking at the basics of forage fish, oxygen, security and structure..... look again.

If you learn an area very well, you won't need a map. This may require some summertime scouting. Some people look for moose with a spotting scope from a vantage point.

I got a fishing report yesterday. Lots of burbot being caught. 1 Laker. -25 this AM. Cold temps have put the overflow at bay for a while.

Ice is thick, snow is decent, beer is expensive and the fishing last weekend was poor. No shacks left nearby.

akdube went by me like a rocketship towing his shanty.

Either you need some runners under it or you need to sober up before towing her. She was all over the place!

He might of had a slime infection.  I heard you drive real erratic after becoming infected the stuff is very dangerous.  I know I defiantly had a wobble going luckily I got out before anyone noticed.

Awesome weekend. Great temps, fair snow (getting sugary) lotsa daylight. Several new people fishing. Some even had Fireball!

I even fished!  ;)

Be careful off of Army Point. A guy and his wife doug a huge hole near the trail. Hopefully they filled it.  It would suck to hit it at speed.

We all know he didn't actually fish.  Its real hard to hold an auger and a cocktail at the same time. ;D

I rarely have to use an auger. All the people see how nice of a guy that I am and ask me where I want the hole drilled.  ;)
