The small chubby darter has on average caught me bigger fish, but my biggest one was on a VMC rattle spoon with wax worms.

Chartreuse willow leaf with single stationary #8 hook tipped with perch eyes work best for me on one local lake and 1/32 oz jig tipped with mousees on another local lake.  Depends on the body of water.

My 14" perch came on a Lindy Rattl'n Flyer spoon red glow.  That one was on the bottom.

I caught several in the 12" or so suspending in open water in the middle of the saddle mostly.  The 10' or so matched the top of the sunken islands and they were not producing during that time.  Saddle bottom out to about 25' with deeper water in the 30' or so.
