Hey all. Just wanted to start a thread for ice conditions on Champlain. I was curious myself about how keelers, sandbar, and the gut are all doing with ice. But anyone who has ice conditions on Champlain is welcome!
-
Been very cold with low wind today so lots of places are icing over. Keelers is OK out to the points but not as far as the island. Sandbar south is all ice but north is mostly brand new ice so not safe yet. People all over the gut today but stay away from the cans. Was open water this morning. Hope this helps.
-
the lake is iced-over south of the Crown Point Bridge. At Laphams Bay there was about 8" of ice today but the water was still a little cloudy, and hardly anybody there.
-
From sat photos yesterday it looks like we grew ice a lot. Full inland sea seems to have locked, though most is new ice in last 2 days but imagine with the cold that it will Be fishable on foot in next day or 2.
South it looks like the area around cp bridge is setting to the north, not super far, but cold last night likely helped it gain more ground
-
thank for the reports we are planning on trying it tuesday.
-
Thanks a ton fellas! Forcast looks great for the next few weeks
-
Mississquoi bay (church road area) has 12-14". Saw two pick ups driving north towards campbells bay.
Be safe out there!
-
Looking good for the islands derby, might be able to get to those good areas on the inland sea.
-
Today’s sat photos show that shelburne bay is starting to freeze out, and it looks like ice extends north from crown point to about oven point.
-
Caught about 1/4 mile out in front of my place on the broad lake a couple miles north of the gut. Might try jigging some perch in the next day or so.
-
Anyone been to any of the southern bays? Laphams, larabees, whiteface?
-
How is Malletts Bay looking?

heard it is murky
-
Any updates on ice thickness around Crown point bridge? I can see from Sat images it’s all snow. Thanks in advance
-
I was at Martin's store today and they said 14" there
-
14" ice and 14" drifted snow...LOL Going to be tough going until we get a thaw.
-
soon it will be 12 ice 6 slush and 2 snow.
-
Sat photos today look promising for a full freeze. Looks like south is frozen up to point bay, and north is starting to set up from the west side Plattsburgh and areas south of it are all frozen.
-
Thanks guys!! Sounds promising. Except for slush and snow

Looks like the ice is solid shore to shore as far as Oven point. Tempted to bring a snowmobile to get my Uncle into some deeper water. Very similar to the best we had last year. I like our chances for the whole Lake locking up this year. After the next 2 days the long range temps look great!
-
headed to the lake.
-
Locked up behind the breakwaters at Burlington and skimmed over out past if for a ways too.
Shelburne bay locked up and snow covered all the way to Red Rock.
UPDATE: Ice has receded from Red Rocks to around the corner into the bay some, wind broke the little bit of skim up.
Bay looks good & solid at Bay Rd. Launch, has lots of drifted snow on the ice though.
-
How about in the Ticonderoga area...??

That's been locked up for awhile.

Great -- thanks!

I've got an AirBnB off of Kibbe Point the weekend of the 15-17th. Luckily my gf likes to ice fish so we are spending our Bdays/Valentines Day up that way. Based on what I'm reading it sounds like Keelers Bay should have plenty of ice. Is the ice safe east of Kibbe Point, out toward Fish Bladder Island and Cedar Island? I've only ice fished the far north end (Kelly Bay) last year and she was not a fan of planking on and off the ice even though there was 16 inches once we got on. Thanks in advanced! PM me if you prefer. Just trying to be safe. Hopefully I can figure out the fish on my own.

planning a trip to Larabees point Tuesday , looking for ice conditions and how much snow on the lake? is it feasible to take my quad out on the ice ?

There should be plenty of ice... I was out in that general area last weekend and there was 11 to 13 inches of ice, should be more now. You may have 6+ inches of snow on top. I'll be out on the lake this afternoon and can report an update later on.
With the above-freezing weather in the forecast for Monday/Tuesday there should be less snow by the time you're going out.
-
Thanks , i'll be looking for the update
-
Has the entire lake locked up?
-
not totally

How is the ice doing just North of Oven Point, at Potash Bay? Safe to ride a 4 wheeler from somewhere nearby to get on to Potash Bay to fish? Looking at the map I don't see an easy way to get out on to Potash without parking in someone's driveway.
Thanks!
-
Last Sunday (1/27) there was 12 -14" of good ice across from the fort along the VT shore (should be more after this week's cold) -- in the morning, there was no snow or slush on the ice (needed Micro Spikes) -- light snow came in later in the day -- shouldn't have any problem walking or with an ATV or sled this weekend...!
-
Is there ice across the lake at Arnold's Bay?
-
Fished Porter Bay today. There is a lot of ice ! 16 to 20 inches thick, with a few inches of snow but no slush, and a few trucks driving around on it.
-
Porter Bay had enough ice this Saturday that people had trucks out again, it seems to have recovered nicely from the warm weather earlier. 14 to 20 inches of ice depending on where you were, and most of it clear & solid. A few inches of snow on top but no slush ! Just caught one decent pike though. Looks like most people out there were having a slow day.

you can out your atv on at pot ash and park at the end of the old road town owns it. problem would be if you have a trailer is turning around.

Was today's chill enough?
-
i could see alot of open water north of kingsland a few days ago.
-
how's the ice at Larabees point
-
Ice up north tends to be thicker and down south thinner. For example, Kelly Bay this week is about 27" and Benson area with greater lake currents is more hazardous.
Mallets Bay was 15" last weekend. If "all guns are loaded" then I look at going out onto lake ice the same way. The season is getting on, and we might want to carry a spud.

Inner Mallett's & Outer Mallet's are thicker than 15", I've been out several times recently and the areas where I've punched holes are 18-19" even out in the narrows between inner & outer.
Currently has about 5-8" of hard pack snow on top.

Next week is going to be COLD! Think it's going to happen fellas?
-
north of the charlotte ferry to shelburne is still open water. i will be fishing on new ice for the next few days.
-
As of sat photo that just released broad lake is frozen except two large splits that run east west. Will freeze the rest of the way overnight I’m sure
