The problem with plywood is moister.  The Kicker is more than the Clam Plate. Wonder why?

The kicker has a 2-1 gear ratio,

Compare the price of the Clam plate with the gear box (same gear ratio)...

I have made 3 of them using painted plywood. No problem with moisture. No problem at all.

Is that made out of Plywood?  Nice work. Looks like a little PVC also.

Question. Why use a plate at all? I have an 18v Milwaukee hammer drill I use with the included side handle with an 8" Lazer auger. Cuts like butter. Doesn't break my wrists.

I agree - same but with a Dewalt - and no issues.  I don't see a need for the plate

How much torque does the Milwaukee you are using have? I have the 2704 with 1200 and after using it around the house and on the ice I’m convinced it could break a wrist with ease. I roll with the clam plate.

It has plenty, that's all I know. It also has a clutch with many many settings that will save your wrists if you're concerned.

Because the drill has so much torque that a lot of the side handles have broken off of the drills.

Only Milwaukee so far, but they have the most torque...

Yep...I think the guys that engineered it should have thought about it a bit and beefed up the handle grab spots.......drill is strong enough it will rip itself apart.

For now....its been a common problem for a number of guys. I've always had mine on the clam plate so never had to worry about it.

The " reason" to use a clam plate, is your auger will never come loose off of your drill chuck.

The ice kicker is the bomb.   I use my old blue ryobi 18v drill and a 6" laser.   It drills great in the 8" or we have here now.   I bought the new 750 lbs ryobi hammer drill but haven't needed to use it yet.  For $90 shipped this plate will turn a lack luster drill into an electric auger.

From what I read these guys are having problems fairly soon after they buy the drill?  Or are the handles breaking after already drilling hundreds of holes?  Mine has a season and a half of holes drill with it.

what are your overall impressions with the ice kicker other than what you've already shared? does it feel heavy or awkward/unbalanced or noisy or any thing else you can think of? you are the first to buy one and share info with us so far.
any thing you'd want to improve upon?

Could possibly use a plastic cutting board in place of plywood if concerned about water.
