I was hoping the same.  It dipped down to at least 30 degrees at my house last night.  Hopefully that will trigger a couple more gallons for me to finish off one last boil...

Fingers crossed here too - got down to 25 last night, but it's going to have to warm up some more for anything to happen today.  Still only 34 on my thermometer.  Next week looks plain awful for sap, but good for early ice out (on the bright side  :) ).

But then look at the temps beyond that....... ;)

My son started boiling his sap last night at 9:30 and when I went to work this morning at 7:00 he was still going.  He had about 265 gallons to boil through the evaporator he built.

For as chilly as it seemed today, was pleasantly surprised when I came home and saw the buckets. @)

Not so much here in 04039.  Granted, I only have 9 taps, but only got a gallon or so today. Decided to boil the whole 2.5 gallons  ;D that I had stored up assuming we had moved into warmer temps.  Now i see that it's 29 and maybe we'll have another run tomorrow?  Who knows...

slow up north, if it gets warm 60 for 5-6 days then back down cold will we be ok.  What is the cutoff point when you can't get anymore sap.  This is only my second year and I quite early last year as I had enough sap before it quite running.  This year has been good one day bad for 6 then a good one.  still hoping for the big drain;

Good question Crab.  First year for me so I can't offer much, but wondering the same.  I'm thinking if we get more than a week of above freezing all day and night that it's time to pull the taps.  But I'm keeping all (9  ;D) of mine in until they've been dry for more than a week and there's no hint of freezing beyond that...

I was surprised to find over 10 gallons hanging on trees when I got home last night.  Got that taken care of and then went out after some cusk last night.  The holes were skimming over pretty quickly and I'm guessing we had another good freeze.  Pretty raw out today, so we'll see.  Should have well over 40 gallons to boil this weekend and not seeing much for buds popping yet - hoping it last a little longer!

Got caught up watching the race (recorded) and checking out Iceshanty posts, forgot I had what is likely my last boil finishing on the stove.  Probably ruined it.  Well, if it turns out to be candy instead of syrup, I guess it's not really "ruined". :)

As long as its not burnt, simply add a little tap water if you are out of sap and re-boil. @)

Thanks gamefisher, did just that and it doesn't look too bad.  A little darker than the other batches, and maybe a bit more sediment on the bottom, but it tasted just fine...

Yup, once they break bud, you're done, tastes like hammered arse, too.  Wouldn't give it to the neighbor I hate.  Smells like sweat socks in the sugar house.  Sap gets a 'tangy' odor to it and tends to be yellow/cloudy.

The employment of effort, hard work, time, and energy put in locating fish will offend noone.
