Lake Byllesby
« on: Dec 13, 2007, 07:54 PM »
Hello Everyone,
I hope the fishing for you all has been GREAT!  I went out once this past Monday and did ok.  It felt good to be out.  I am planning on going out this Sat.  I am bringing a friend who is not an avid fisherman.  He suggested we go to Lake Byllesby and I am concerned about the ice.  I know there is a dam on one end of the lake.  Is there a current going through the lake?  Any one ever fish it much?  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

hey cfshnbfshn,
Did you make it out on Byllesby?

I have had two perms on the lake for that last few years.  There is a current along the lake, mainly running across the north shore.  I am at college for a few more days, but will be hitting the lake as soon as finals/graduation is done.  I have heard reports varying from 5 to 8" of ice on many parts of the lake, but be careful.  Fishing has been a little slow in the past few years.  It used to have and EXCELLENT population of crappies, then a report was issued in outdoor news, so the lake saw A LOT of traffic after that.  Population is recovering, but it has been hit and miss for many anglers.  There is little weed structure, but there are many humps, bars, etc.

Check out the MNDNR website to look at a map of the lake (it is vague, but will give some assistance and basic current flow.)  Many focus on the southern part of the lake (which is owned by the Boy Scouts) near cliffs and along the shores of the Dakota County park.

Good Luck and hope to here a report.

We never made it out to Byllesby.  After searching around, I decided to go with something I knew.  Like everyone else in the southern TC, I went to Prior.  We did ok.  I still would be interested in trying Byllesby someday.  Thanks for the info.  Good luck if you go!

Walleyes (14-21"), crappies (9-10") hitting at night(9 PM - 2 AM) in 7-10' water. crappie/fathead-plain hook baited or glow jig didn't matter, Ice was 10-12" thick, several small vehicles driving on lake( not me..not yet)<<<< when I was out there Fri. nite.
Wanna know where I was on the lake??....  Heheheh. sorrrry......
But they are biting. The double Low Pressure sure set them off. Good Luck! Watch your bobber!

I was out last nite 4:30 -7:45, I was thinking the front coming in, might make for a good bite at that time, But  I only had 1 bite. Sure enough, the one time I go to my truck after setting up, I  hear the rattle reel spin, & by the time I made it back into the shanty, the fish was gone. Bummer.... But, I guess I'll have to try again.

On another note, Some of the GOBS(Good Ol' Boys) I fish & hunt with made the local paper. :)
