Tip-ups

I am fishing Sylvan Beach tomorrow and will be perch fishing with tip-ups. First of all, does it work? Should I use a treble or single hook? What size? What kind of minnows? And how deep should I fish? Thanks for answering my boatload of questions. Will report back. Thanks.
