Manitou Sunday evening
« on: Feb 09, 2009, 06:48 PM »
My brother and I fished Manitou Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  He was using mainly jigging raps, while I was using a black tear drop and pearl coat ice fly. Both tipped with spikes.  I caught a bass on the ice fly and another bass on the black tear drop.  Switched to a glow tear drop after dark and picked up a crappie and several other bluegill.  It was so AWESOME ice fishing in the moonlit night.  Kept enough to eat and released the rest.  Here are a few pics:

Nice pics!!    The JUMBO PERCH has some nice color to it.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Yes,I was using a jig that I made. (Very rewarding)  Most good sized fish were hammering them that day and well the little ones were light biters. (I'm analyzing that sentence, BTW)  I prefer a good solid bite. LOL  The crappie was 11 1/2" and the perch was 12 1/2".

When we got to the very South end, there was a group of maybe 8 to 10 guys fishing together.  My brother went out to fish deeper and I don't like to but into a crowd so I fished about 60 yards away from the group.  While I was fishing, I thought I kept hearing "the fish are over here".  I wasn't catching many were I was, so I looked over and sure enough they were putting fish on the ice.  Then later I looked over and most of the guys were standing to leave and one them was looking right at me and was majorly pointing down to his hole then gesturing me to come fish in it.  LOL  So I did and that's were I caught most of my fish.  How cool was it for him (a guy I didn't even know) to let me fish in his spot?  Ice fishing people are some of the nicest folks around!!  ;)

Good to see lake spitting out fish again. Used to be a 2 trip a year spot for me before access became an issue.  Now being twice as far away doesn't help either.  Might bring the kayak and flyrod over in late spring though.

Actually the bass is measured but the crappie was not.  I just guessed at the length of the crappie.

Right back attcha Gillhound.  I still have hope for this weekend or for Monday or Tuesday.
