Aer you saying just a chunk of soap on a hook? It makes you wonder who would find out such things., (but when no one is looking, I might try)

The person who found this out must have been a hillbilly that just didn't know what soap was for. ;)

ivory soap is what they use.i spent a lot of time in the south normally in the springs when the commercial guys are running there trot lines 1000 hooks or more they will put a small square about 3/8 to 1/2 inch of soap block on the hook and the channel cats love it but only for a short time three four weeks i think.don't know how they found out about it but it is old i'm forty two and heard about it going back for years.the guys use it most in lake Okeechobee

My wife is originally from the south and had heard of this too.  She used almost dried out turkey livers to catch catfish with.

I've had luck using soap in the summer after reading about it in a book. possibly a sales ploy, but it said it absolutely needs to be ivory unscented.  it sure beats any other cat bait for the smell it leaves on your hands  ;D
