Best Place?
« on: Nov 30, 2004, 10:15 PM »
Hi,

I'm from Iowa and I was wondering where the best place would be to go catch my first walleye ice fishing?  I was thinking the ice will most likely freeze over there sooner.  Thanks.

Time to fish.

It depends on how far you want to drive.  In eastern SD I would try Lake Thompson or Waubay.  They are big lakes and won't freeze for a while.  It will be quite a while before we can drive on them I would imagine.  But there are smaller lakes north of I-90 that hold walleye.  I have caught walleye at Lake Vermillion, Brandt Lake, Lake Madison.  I live by Lewis and Clark Lake by Yankton.  There are some decent walleye there but the past few years driving on it has been risky in my opinion.  I will keep my ears open and post any info when the lakes start to freeze.
