Setting up a popup
« on: Feb 07, 2024, 03:45 PM »
What are the thoughts about setting up a popup the night before going out to mark a spot on a lake, that you are going to fish the next day?

If your state doesn't have overnight/unattended shelter restrictions and you aren't worried about somebody stealing it, I'd say go for it.

I believe you just have to make sure you have the required owner info visible on the shelter along with adequate reflectors detailed in NH RSA 211:17-a.

I have left mine out overnight without any issue.

In my opinion an unoccupied shanty does not "claim a spot".  Same deal for an unoccupied hard side.

Correct it only claims the footprint of the house/popup.....

I’ve done it, marked with first and last name anchored well and with reflectives. But it was pretty far out on the main lake and I still got to my spot early. Was just one less thing haul out for the derby.

I know a guy (most of you do too) that use to post here, that did just that for the derby with his pop up.  One of the handiest guys that posted in NH...no one gave him crap for it.

Depending on the area, I'd be worried about it disappearing.

They folks were streaming in last night on winter harbor and 19 mile bay. Lots of lights out there setting up shelters and saving their spots. Careful if going to wolfboro bay that ice looked scary yesterday
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways
