You'll get lots of answers about what bait to use, but not many will tell you their favorite spot ;>).

Generally, shallow bays with lots of weeds are a good place to start.

Yes, it's popular for Pike and Sunnies.  You can set tip-ups for pike and jig for sunnies while you wait.

Another popular one is Dillenbeck bay(on Alburg island) , which is about 3 - 4 miles north of Carry Bay.

Both fit the model, anything from 4 - 10 feet of water, lots of weeds, and pike's favorite food, Sunnies.

Carry bay probably freezes up a little before Dillenbecks.

There's good parking along the road at Carry Bay and Dillenbecks has a state fishing access which is usually plowed. Later in the year, lots of people drive on at Dillenbecks.

Good Luck,

Wow, you got a prime spot there between Carry and Pelot.  Both are popular for pike fishing.

There's a derby called the Islands Derby , sometime around then.  Here's a link to the results from last years (2008) derby  http://www.harborwatch.com/news/icederbiew.htm.

Maybe a call to the Elk's Club would get you some more info.

OBTW:  There's a place North of Carry Bay called Holliday Harbour, they rent shanties and have a motel open for ice fishermen. They'd probably know when the Islands Derby is.

Same here Larry.  I have fished there for years and never seen anything over 9 lbs.  Always lots of fish, but no lunkers.

Just have learn how to fillet those excellent tasting pike.  I can guarantee no bones.  Once you get someone to show you how to fillet a northern you'll target them every time you get a chance.  I'll bring home a 5 - 6 lb. pike every chance I get and gotta cook it up and eat it that night.

I think its better tasting than walleye and perch and I'm not a big fish eater you just have to learn how to clean pike.I like the back straps the best on a 10lb fish.the bigger the fish the easier it is to clean.

Northern Pike = Yummy Fish Chowder.  I fish for lakers, but if I get a decent pike I don't throw it back.

Speaking of Pike.... Monkton pond was frozen over as of yesterday, albeit a thin layer but so long as temps stay low it willl be fishable in a couple of weeks.... A very ealry start to the season this year!

Just out of Monkton off Monkton Road as you head toward Vergennes..... Plenty of panfish, bluegill, crappie and some Lunker Largemouth in there and lots of pike up to around 4-5 pounds, although I have heard of them being caught up to 12# in there.

Pike are good eating just have to know how to fillet them. We target
pike and walleye in our trips to Canada. We look forward to fresh pike fillet
and chowder.
