Looking for info on Higley access.  Where do you go to get on the ice?  Any place walkable from shore?  My kids want to go, but I want it to be fun to keep their interest, so a long, long walk would be a negative.

You can park at the end of the Morgan Rd in South Colton and walk right onto 3 Falls flow.. or South Colton flow as it has been modernly named... if you take the dam road you can access 5 falls, rainbow, and others. I would not recommend this with kids or anyone who doesnt know the flows.. as far as higley itself goes.. its highly privatized these days are there is limited access.. there are much much better bodies of water to bring kids to keep them occupied.

There is one spot where you park along the road on Cottage rd, and walk down onto Stump Bay.. i would not want to hoof it down in there with the snow right now, though.

Did the ice form opposite of normal this year?  It seems like the smaller lakes that usually have the thickest ice have less than the big lakes this year.  I was on a small one this weekend that only had 10", 6 of black and 4 of white.  I was expecting at least 12" of good ice with snow on top of that.

The smaller lakes had ice when the snow feel insulating them from the cold that followed. The bigger Lakes didn't freeze until after the snow so cold just made Black ice with no insulation. Timing is everything. Cya...

You wont find anyone up here in the business of selling large dead bait. Youll have to buy it live or online.

Its gonna be mostly hockey for me this weekend. Crossing the river to Ottawa this afternoon to watch the Sens take on the Bruins. Then its 'Cold Out Gold Out' weekend at Cheel, as Clarkson welcomes Yale and Brown Fri/Sat night.. if anyones looking for something fun to do with the family, go to Cheel Arena in Potsdsm friday or saturday night and check out the No. 3 team in the nation Clarkson play. They are pretty good this year!

If you have the chance to catch a game at Lynah Rink you should...it's a great experience! There's some decent fishing down here too when the finger lakes freeze

I saw that there are lean tos on Tupper. Eagle Landing and Black Bay. Is this correct? Are they accessible in the winter? Available for camping? Is the ice safe around there, and of course... Hows the fishing? Thanks for any help fellas! Fish on!

Tried a new spot today .... Drilled several holes until I found the depth I wanted then had issues with heavy current .... Finally got the tip ups out and started jigging ..... Had a flag go up at dark as I was picking up and got there just in time to see that nice slow walleye roll from the spool ... Landed a nice 6 pound walleye and headed home .... Was going to chase some perch tomorrow but this spot deserves another chance

15"+ ice on Fern Lake, Clinton County.  Catching a mixture of pike, perch, and huge bass on tip ups.
