Made it out to one of the old walleye spots today .... My buddy gave me a lesson on catching fish, I could not manage even a nibble .... He got bit off by a pike , lost a nice perch and caught 2 walleye ..... One was a 9 lb st Lawrence river beauty  ..... Very little ice but things look promising   @)

Started off with a northeast wind and not much action .... Fish were showing but would not bite figured it was gonna be a slow day ..... Things changed fast and the last hour provided some action...we left with
2 keepers and each lost a nice fish ... I should have had my limit tonight but had some bad luck .... Feels good to be back in some spots that didn't have ice last winter .....  - 12 windchill when we walked off  :o will be tying some stinger hooks on my jigging rapalas tonight ....

Lets hear some lure and bait combinations that have been working for walleye ? Buck shot rattle and jigging rapala have been working for us ... Golden shiner and perch colors  tipped with a minnow .... Anyone using tip ups and catching walleye ? Just put my lights on my walleye tip ups tonight will use them next week when it warms up ...

A Slender Spoon tipped with a minnow head on one rod, a B3 bladebait on the other rod. If the bladebait is calling em in and they wont eat, the minnowhead seems to get it done..

Been reading every page of this thread, more than halfway thru. Thanks for all the tips and advice . Itching to get up there, maybe next weekend or weekend after, I was gonna ask where  the ice is ( just so you guys could practice rolling your frozen eyeballs) jk!

I was joking about the ice , I'm sure there is some , But I plan on hitting the St Lawrence , anywhere from Waddington , to HP. I hit it there open water in my boat, I never iced fish much , wanted to do more, bought some stuff, tip ups , shelter, and then two years of no ice , or at least ice when I could go.
Me and my young son did the pike challenge at coles a few years back. Never caught a thing but had a blast with the people around us .
I'm fishing for walleye and pike . I know some spots are better than others at different times , I'm just not sure which is which or when, I have not been able to break the secret codes reading the thread,Lol
So I'm gonna try anyway. I'm from Pa about 8 hours away so just to run up and check ice is tough. Love to fish , fish a bunch of open water, fished last few days but starting to get tough with the ice, too much for a boat and not enough to stand on .
Itchen to go!

Nice ones nny
If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in northern New York
