Get out there folks, there's safe ice to be had

Beer will get you through times of no ice better than ice will get you through times of no beer...

Anybody know why the water is cloudy on eel bay? Not like we had any run off lately. Or maybe its just an early ice thing?

The baitshop list is located in the locked thread titled "New York News and Info" along with a bunch of other related hyperlinks. Here is the link to the baitshops:

Its called the wind.  Being that the bay is real shallow and the wind has been non stop it bounces between the bottom and the ice and makes the silt move.  Its just like when you run a vehicle over the ice it makes a wake under the ice.

Does anyone know the best place to start to look for crappie this season? I am new to the North Country and I would like to get out on the ice with the kids.

Thanks! Got out on Eagle with a buddy today. Beautiful black ice. Avg about 4.5". If youre fishing deep, use your spud! Ice got thin over deep water. At Eagle I got skunked. Couple others on the lake seemed to do better than us. Got off about 2pm. Headed up to Lincoln to close out the night. ~5" of ice. 4 black, with the top being cloudy. Fished the campground side. 1 little (20") pike. So i can say i didnt get completely skunked. Will probably try Lincoln again in the a.m.

We had 6" today. But rained off and on most of day. If the cold doesn't came back. Perch lake might be starting over.

I'm thinking of changing tactics and chasing lakers. I want to head up to Blue Mountain Lake but never fished there before. Anyone have info on parking and depth to start with? Usually fish for walleye. Will likely get Rosie reds and medium shimmers for bait.
