I'll drink to that! :woot: Congrats on your doe. Passed on a 4-pt and a doe because I've got an 8-pt on camera. I'll try rattling soon.

try it now, and grunt. my brother called in a nice 8 with a broken brow and killed him on 10/23/15 he was very aggressive.

My goals for the season are some walleye for the freezer and lots of time on the ice.  ;D

My Biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my gear for what i said i paid for it.

SO I am in the market for a new auger, again. I bought the Jiffy Pro 4 propane 10'' last year and it did not hold up to the test. I had problems with not starting/running in the extreme cold. Leaking propane from the regulator/lines, and actually leaking oil right out of the base. Also had a fuel line break right in half one morning (-27*).. Poor fuel economy in the extreme cold as well, probably was leaking fuel also but in the extreme cold I would sometimes only see 10-15 holes per bottle..But the biggest issue was I just could not get the auger to start/run in the cold. ( -10* and below, which I see a lot).

So, what do you guys use and how do you like it? I put a good whoopin on an auger, usually around 50 or more full days of fishing a season. I'm thinking probably go back to the good old 2 stroke smoke, starts up and runs in the extreme cold.

The old 2-strokes were pretty good.  Don't know about the new models.  If I were looking for a gas auger - I'd give the new Strikemaster with a honda engine a good long look.  But I'm not - I'm am pleased as can be with my IceGator.  And with the new 42V 9.5" auger combo coming this winter, I'm loooking hard at that.  :P

If it wasn't for the extreme cold you fish in I'd say go with the Ion.... the one morning I fished it was -7 and still got about 30 8" holes out of it before the battery quit.... probably could have got more out of it if I kept the batter in a soft cooler with a hand warmer in it but I just tossed it inside the hub when it wasn't being used.... but because of the cold you'd be better off with a if its not broke don't fix it 2-stroke

They are a customer of ours at work (software)  sorry to hear.  I've used my nils in temp you mention without issue.  My buddy's jiffy propane never ad an issue at those temps.  I guess its like anything else, some get lucky with a good one others dont.

Hello Men and Women of the hard water clan, my buddy became a certified diver over the summer, we went out on the river and he did quite a few dives where he came up and reported thousands of walleye in certain spots, will these spots be a good place to fish come hard water? or will i be wasting my time, i dont know walleye seasonal patterns so was hoping someone on here might know, thanks ...
Well, first ---- you have to give up those spots.  Then we'll let you know if they are any good for ice season.   ;D

I've seen the same thing in the St. Lawrence, right along with countless Sturgeon.  You can bang a lure right off their nose and they won't move.  Think they have to be in a feeding mood.

only one way to find out.... first and foremost, make sure its gonna be a safe spot to ice fish. some of the river is a no-no all winter no matter how cold. But sounds like you have a few good places to start.

Hey all. New fella to the region, but not new to hardwater. New job and new place, living in Elizabethtown. Can't wait to hit some of these lakes this year. Also excited to chase Lakers for the first time. Here's to a good and safe year on the ice for all of us, cheers!
