Headed up to rollaway bay at black lake this morning with my wife and junebug. When we got there, there was a handful of guys fishing already, the shoreline was really wet but we ventured out , checked the ice as we walked and it was still 4 inches of solid black in most spots. We had to watch for old holes as they were starting to open up a bit. We caught a bunch of small perch and my wife caught a 22 inch northern, her first northern ever ;D. Got to try out some new stuff and had a great time. A guy fishing next to us also caught a pike and he have it to us. The pike fillets are cooking as I type :) around noon the sun came out and it seemed to be softening the ice up, so we hightailed it out if there. I would defiantly not venture back out there until we get a few more cold days

Got to play with the new auger and jaw jackers, and stayed on the right side of the ice!
U think that would have stopped ole G.W. From crossing the Delaware ???

I live in Saranac lake and we have ice, sketchy in spots and must keep eye on water, if it has moving water at all don't do it. If ponds are locked with no streams they are holding 6-8 inches. Be careful around old holes as they opened up a bit from rain but by next weekend everything should be good for the season.

I'm pretty sure I checked half the lakes in Upstate NY today, from Moon to Star, Tupper I thought but it turned out to be Raquette Pond LOL... Fished that and marked nothing but perch the size of Fatheads.... Good to wet a line. Black Lake was frozen but no way it was safe to fish, couple cold days should get her right again. Long car ride for a skunk, but hey.... I Ice Fished  ;D

There is access off Kiwassa Road, good luck that is one tough lake through the hardwater we fished an entire day last year and didn't get squat, beauty setting but depressing results

Fished today with a good friend. Ice was 7" but fishing was slow an it was a lake we never fished before. 3 walleye, 2 pike and couple perch only one eye and pike were keepers.  Didn't move around much wind was really blowing and I was a pansy and stayed in the shanty with the heat on  ;D.

Still was a great time peace and quiet on a more remote lake with some good scenery.  Sorry the one pics a screen shot off my camera.

Beautiful. Congrats on the nice fish!

Hey guys, I'm here in New York City, and with the recent warm days I don't think that I'll be able to get on ice in the area of 150mi from the city.
I will have 4 days for the holidays and thinking of paying a visit to Saranac Lake for the first time.
I'm not asking to burn a spots, but if you could point where public parking is and local B&T and inexpensive motel I guess I'd be all set for the trip.

Thanks a lot.

Wow, thanks, rball. For now plan is to leave early Thursday, and I have good 5 hours of drive if no traffic. But if I finish early tomorrow I might be able to get out tomorrow late afternoon.
I'll keep you posted.

thanks again.
