My dad broke a leader clean in half today on a fish. Steel leader.. Had to have been an imprecection in the leader. 20 minutes later he caught a 26" pike with half of a leader/hook hanging out of its mouth.

damn man that is super impressive i cant wait to have a trophy room like that some day, alot of hard work goes into that. I caught a 42.5" pike last yr i released only 18lbs if i get a 20lber ill prob do a replica unless i decide to do a replica of the one last season eventually. still searching for a 10lb marble eye for the wall too. the fish you guys catch up there are unreal i look forward to the pics this season.

Forget 10, come up here and get a 13-14!! Lol just kidding. Good luck on the eyes this year.

And good luck to everyone. I can't wait to get on some really good spots! Temps dumping off this weekend.

Oh I'm glad I'm able to get out. My patience wore thin during open water season so I guess I'm a little quick to pull the trigger on the blame game. I wish I was able kt get out tmrw after this rain but looks like a couple days off.

Salmon  or brown? No two of my friends can agree.  Would've taken more pics but it was a cold day in the adirondacks and I didn't want her freezing up.  My guess is it's a LLsalmon just because of the mouth/maxillary doesn't extend past the eye. http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fishing/salmon_v_browntrout.htm

Its true, on the Brown the jaw tends to extend well past the eye and your fish does not, could you tell if the tail was forked at all? Also, where your right hand is near the tail known as the caudal peduncle is narrow, speaking to LL Salmon, cant tell, any of those spots look like x marks?

Tough to tell from that pic but I'm leaning brown. Head shape looks like a brown to me. But I'm far from an expert. A view of the tail would help, as jighead said. There is a lot of variation in browns with peduncle size and jaw length, and the angle of the pic doesnt help determine where the jaw ends much at all. I've also found female browns to typically have the max end nearly even with the back of eye, rather than well behind it.

That's a nice fish. I would have to say it is an older Landlocked Salmon. The mouth looks that of a salmon and the spots seem to be on the upper sides of the fish. But, I'm not 100% sure. If I had it in front of me, in my hands I could tell what it is. Thanks for sharing!

Here's a better picture, the sun was at my back in this one really pulling out the iridescence. Compared to a laker of the same size, it had a lot more fight in it, was a blast on the ultralight regardless.

wow, that is a tough fish to identify, the tail lacks that fork which suggests Brown Trout . Looks like we need to look in the mouth to really know LOL...

I cropped the hell out of one of the last pictures I have and the tail does look like it has a slight fork to it. If I'm ever in doubt again I'll take a quick picture of the mouth, haha, seems to be the only sure way to tell. Some bodies of water really make it hard to differentiate between the two.

To chase walleyes tonight, or not. Cost me a $20 bill just to go and check the night bite. Could pay off though.
