How You Build A Shack...
« on: Sep 25, 2014, 06:14 PM »
Maybe some people are following my first shanty build somewhere else in this forum, but if you aren't, there's one indispensable thing you need...

A friend that is a mechanical engineer.

The 10' long walls in my shack are done, for the most part...

So my mechanical engineer buddy went to work and drew up the rest of it, and ran some numbers for me...

8' side wall, with 32" door and 34" window

Inside the shack, showing the side wall and 10' wall, under the window is a wall mounted heater.

Side view. This only shows the bench seat, that folds to a bunk on the left.

Side view with the upper bunk.

Another view with the upper bunk, this wall will mirror the other side, so it's not actually drawn very well here, this was for reference on how much space the upper bunk will have. Assuming that's a 6" mattress, you'll have 30" at the head and 20" at the foot of the bed.

Another view, the upper bunk will rotate out of the way for more head room when fishing and not sleeping. It'll be kind of weird with the slant roof, but it's going to have to work for now.

And the seat on that bench is 19" high, for 5 gallon bucket storage.

I am going to use Advance Steel to model my sturgeon shanty and will be able to predict the shack weight with it.  When I finish I'm going to post up my drawings and BOM for others to follow if they so choose.

Nice looking drawings, any weight estimate for that shack?

I've got to say, around 2,000 LBS.

It's got a 2X6 floor, and 2X4 walls. It will have all the comforts of home.
