Fall is settling in and I am ready to hit the ice. I guess we'll have some in a month or so.
Have a great season everyone.
-
I'll be out there again this year, hopefully as early as last year (mid-December).Just got my new blades for the hand auger and stocked up on propane, nothing else much needed from being so prepared from earlier seasons all I need now is new line.Maybe some bonus extravagant needs if I feel on splurging, but on countdown now and cant wait.

Born ready.Big fish !!!!
-
More than ready. I got the snowmobile fever the last two years and rode instead of fishing. Sold one and hopefully the other one will be gone soon.
My Grandkids want to go fish with Papa on the ice.
-
I'll be ready in about a month.....some good fall fishing left
-
Hopefully Thanksgiving weekend.
-
I just watched a weather update on youtube. They said mid November an artic front will be arriving bringing cold weather. I'm hoping we get off to an early start like last year.
-
I'm more then ready, they are saying its going to be a cold winter so hopefully it will be a good long ice season.
-
I am looking forward to ice this year more than I have in the last several years combined. I need to fill some canning jars with venison, but after that..... let her freeze I say. Actually wouldn't mind fishing on Christmas day.....
My wife put a 130 class buck down this morning.... So I have some work to do when I get home!
Tight lines all, and here's to a great season!

Congrats to your bride on the buck! But tell me, what do put in the Ball jars?

Ball jars are for the venison version of rocky mountain oysters maybe.Wonder if they taste better before the rut or after, either way don't want to find out for myself so maybe someone here can enlighten me.

Ball jars are used to can venison. It's a great alternative to freezing, makes quick meal available simply by popping the top, and it really is great stuff. been doing it for years

Really sounds like a great way to do your venison and not have to worry about freezer burn.

I am intrigued.
I assume raw venison? Sausage, ground? What else?

I am so ready. Hoping and praying for a long ice season this year. Ice has been iffy the last couple years

Not yet...need an application? ;D
Not as bad as it looks...only half of it will be going at a time. Easily less than 60# including shanty.

We raw pack ours with a garlic clove and a quarter of an onion. Then we top off our jars with beef bullion, and process them in the pressure canner..... So good...
Lately we cut out our backstraps and tenderloins, but everything else gets canned or ground.
We usually open a jar, and add it to some sauteed onions and garlic, then when its all heated through we add a bit of sour cream.

Got my buck in archery, one doe tag for rifle, then switching gears for ice fishing. Still pretty excited about rifle season here in PA, will be hunting with a suppressed rifle this year.

Got my deer today. Time to make some venison sausage for burgers on the ice and I am ready! Bring it on mother nature, let us have it.
-
Zern, a little info please
I'm looking at ordering some spikes from Ja Da. How has your experience been with ordering? Do you have trouble keeping such a large supply? How long do they last for you and do you have any hints on keeping them?
Many thanks and keep your toes warm

Never thought I’d be praying for cold weather so much but it’s better to be ice fishing than in a boat or kayak so give us ice!
