Title: Net Maintenance
Post by: Beets on Jan 17, 2016, 12:06 PM
I have an old green minnow net 4ft X8ft(30yrs) and was thinking about using it this spring.I cleaned it with soap and water cause it was super dirty.
I washed it by hand 1 time and rinsed 3 times and dirt is still coming out of it. I'm thinking it was treated with something which was holding all the dirt.
When it drys what should you treat it with,if anything? Will it dry rot?
Thanxs

50 years ago my minnow seines made of a brown thread - maybe cotton or hemp.  That would probably rot, although if your net has held up for 30 years already I'm not sure I would worry.

The last few nets I've had were made of nylon (these were drop nets, not seines), and that won't rot.  I wouldn't bother cleaning it, the minnows don't care.

Wow thirty years ago and it still holds up.
