Some new homemade gear
« on: Oct 12, 2010, 01:46 PM »
Chepiguy and I have been spending the past month or so planning, gathering and building(Chep did the labor, no kids. ;D).
Have a new sled for the Clam, which should save the back on those snow days.  Made that out of aluminum shelving that he got for free and a $10 pair of skis (sporting the Ice Shanty stickers and we'll have the small flag set up too).  Also made 6 new tip-ups. They are about 36 in.  Bought the reels and the spring dowels from Heritage and the flag keepers at R&Y on 44.  Chepi got the wood from work and finished it.  Used screen door springs for the flags.  Bent the metal for the trips and flags.  All in all we figure that we made each one for around $16.  We probably would have paid over $30 for that size and quality retail.

Here's the pics:

Looks real good ;D
80% of Americans are unhappy with the direction our once great Country is heading. Yet 80% of Americans insist on buying blue jeans that were made in China, coffee filters that were made in Taiwan and anything else that was made anywhere but here........wonder if there might be a connection?

They better work.  We'll see, we always mark our tip ups with the size, species and date if the fish are big enough.  And for the hell of it we're going to number them and keep a log.  We always have the log on index cards in the Clam just to see times, conditions, etc.

Is that the 2000 or the 5600 clam that you made the sled for?

5600. The aluminum is real light, can pick it up easily with one arm but it's nice and sturdy.
