Title: michigan smelt
Post by: arcticcatz on Nov 22, 2013, 11:27 AM
I have had some luck smelt fishing Higgins late in the year, But it is a 2 1/2 hour drive for me and I have lots of time during December and January to fish. My question is can you find smelt during first ice? and do you just have to go deep to fine them? thanks!

Have you ever tried Gull lake? Might be a little closer to you. You can get smelt anytime at any depth but certain times are ALOT better than others. Keep an eye on the fishing reports. Buc's is a good one http://bucsfishingreport.com/ (http://bucsfishingreport.com/). Hope this helps. ;D

You owe it to yourself to give Gull a try. Smelt are doing better than ever there.
