Bomoseen, Looking for a little guidance
« on: Feb 03, 2024, 09:10 PM »
I know most are not eager to share info on the lakes but a good friend my son and I are heading to bomo Friday into Saturday afternoon and I was looking for some help on where to head. Not looking to blow up any spots we all live over 2 hours away. I've never fished for smelt and it's been years since I targeted browns so We where looking for some help on strategy for them. I heard browns in deeper water 1-3 under the ice but what do folks use for bait? I was think medium minnows, worms and egg sacks?.  Smelt like worms and little glow jigs?

I was thinking of going near the island or the side near the bait store. Any help would be very much appreciated. Might only get out one other time due to work so we'd love to make it count and would never take more than we could eat later and I ofter release most fish anyways.
Feel free to private message me.
Tight lines ya'll!

Nothing? Bummer. Well we'll get some lines in there anyways and probably catch some fish.  Good luck to ya'll. Hope the ice holds out.

Try off the green dump on the west shore. Ice is in the 6in range (last I fished it) and with the warm temps coming be mindful of the conditions potentially changing while you are out there

Been getting smelt at night in 35 fow using Halis.

Browns are everywhere on that lake it seems. Been having a lot of luck around 26-30 fow using medium shiners just under the ice
I'm not saying they're biting on Brant.  But they probably are

I'm going to try Bomoseen this week on the north end, how's the ice? Is it wheeler safe?

Ice is in the 5-6in range on the average. Out over 50-60fow north of the island I found it closer to 4.
I have only seen a snow dog out there. Not a single snowmobile or four wheeler.

Drove to southern VT yesterday and back today. There were a lot on Bomoseen yesterday and quite a few today. Did not see any 4 wheelers or snowmobiles out there.

Hit Bomo Wednesday after work for smelt and ice was great. Ten or so groups near the green dump also smelting. Left with a decent bucket and a master size. They are so big there.
