Just curious where others thaw out their equipment.  I'm fortunate have an understanding wife who likes to ice fish so from Jan 1 to mid-March our foyer is pretty much ice fishing central but it's a pain loading and unloading after every trip (2-3 per week).  Just upgraded to an Ion X from a 2 stroke Strike Master.  In the past if my strikemaster got icey I'd pull the drill off the power head and just put the drill in the shower to thaw.  With the Ion X, no 2 stroke smell to worry about so it goes completely in the shower.  I have a very large garage but no heat... thinking about sectioning off a part of it just for ice fishing equipment thawing.  Also toyed with an enclosed trailer that would fit my Ranger / gear with a heater and wired for 120V so all my charging could be done right there.

Seems like my Ion X builds up a lot more slush / ice on the flights than the old Strike Master - perhaps because the Ion turns as a lower rpm and I can't "fling off" the slush as well?  Has anyone tried to wax or Rain-X their auger bit to reduce slush build up?

Every year I put two or three coats of car wax on my auger bit and it helps a lot when revving it up to spin off the water.  I did it initially because I was bored and wanted to play with my gear during the off season and after seeing that it helped I kept doing it and have been for years.

Reminds me of something that happened a few years ago.  I hung my Ice armor bibs and jacket in the shower to dry and went to work.  A little while later my girlfriend went into the bathroom.  While she was sitting there she looked over at the shower and saw the silhouette of a man standing in it.  Needless to say, I was in a bit of trouble for that one.

For my power auger I leave it in the garage with some pipe heat tape works great. Rest of the gear clothing and rods\ tip ups always in the house. By morning auger is always melted off so can unplug. Cheap option and safe.

I have heard of people spraying their auger with Pam . I think I'll try the wax.

I set my hut up and lay out my gear in the heated garage after every trip to make sure it's dried out before storing.

Auger goes to garage, which is usually above freezing.  We're empty nesters so there is a little space here now.  Everything but the auger gets set out all over our guest room, overnight.  The forced air gas furnace dries stuff really quickly.  Hub gets opened but not set up.  x2 on the understanding wife, especially when I'm slow to get things stowed away.  Seems like during the season I'm either cleaning up from the last trip or setting up for the next, even though I don't get out as much as a lot of the folks on here.

I always bring marcum, fishing gear and auger inside spare bathroom tub. After a few hours it is all dry. Charge marcum battery then everything goes back in garage for next trip.

I left mine in my van and then the temp went above freezing for a few days. Bad move!! There was enough rust to really affect the auger the next week. Had to remove the blades and remove the rust with an oil stone. I'm going to tr some of that lube.

My mom has a very large greenhouse and just happens to live on the main lake i do most of my fishing and a short drive from the others. When im done for the dayi pull my sled in the door stand my auger n pop up shack up against the walls. Even on cold days the sun heats it just enough to thaw and dry everything out.
Theres only 3 seasons..open water, hunting and icefishing!

Oh yeah, before I put the auger away, I spray the blades with WD-40, especially the bolts and between blade and auger.  I highly recommend that.

I have a toy hauler travel trailer rv that I have modified a bit into an ice fishing resort. My toy hauler rv has a linex sprayed in bedliner on the floor and 1" up the walls/cabinets in place of the linoleum that it came from the factory with, which provides good protection from the melt off I get from the sleds, auger, snowmobiles and atvs. I hang the Striker Ice Climate suit in the bathroom right above a heat vent that dries everything nicely. I also set my otter pro shack against the bed above another heat vent with my muck arctic pros and gloves on the floor directly under said vent. If it has been raining or snowing I open all tackle trays and rod bag to dry those as well. I turn the furnace up to 90 and in about 2-4 hours (usually my drive home or over dinner at the lake) my gear and rv are dry and ready to go another round. If I'm staying at the lake, I will plug in my battery chargers, fire up the generator and charge up the flashers. Only way to fish.

I take my flasher, bibs & coat inside to the basement everything else stays out in the garage (non heated). I find as long as I'm careful to clean my auger off after each hole ice build up isn't a problem if there is ice on the blades I just throw it on the floor of my truck on the way to the ice. Sometimes my flip has ice balls on the bottom skirt the size of soft balls but it helps keep it down on windy days lol.

Do you guys all open your hub again at home to dry out, or just open up the bag or whatever?  I've been opening mine, but it's huge and I don't really have room to open it all the way up.  I'td be nice to know that it dries all the way, just by leaving the bag open and spreading it out a little bit.

I use a product called Fluid Film which is lanolin based and is non-toxic and non-hazardous. Use it on a lot of things as it stops and prevents rust, I spray my snow blower with it and no snow sticks, spray the underside of my mower deck and it helps to keep grass clippings from sticking so bad, nothing seems to stop the grass completely but this really helps to keep it at a minimum. Go to there web site and check out all the recommended uses and you will be amazed. Wish I had found this stuff a long time ago.

Good stuff I use that for my snow plow, I bet it would work.

Everything that's wet or ice covered goes in the shower/tub except the sled.
