My brother taught me apple blossom time is time to catch rockies.  I don't like them as much if caught in the summer.

Only time of year I even think about keeping rockies

gills have got to be No 1  not sure who comes next but maybe spring time bull heads then it's crappie , wally and yes don't forget rocky  I started keeping them one day when the gill bite was tough and was pleasantly surprised . They really are good when caught thru the ice

I can't identify those little black dots or the ugly beyge ones or even those red string like creatures but I do know that the more the fish relates to weed beds the more parasites you find.  For instance  same body of water, sunfish caught in the weeds are peppered but blue gills that spend more time in the deeper water ,not so much.    Perch in Onieda not so many. Perch in Vermonts Bomoseen which are caught in the weeds are a mess I try to pick some out but if they're too many they go in the gut bucket.  Hope the eagle doesn't mind

Shallow water usually has slot  to  do with the black dots .... However I have never seen them.in crappies .....

Thanks guys. I still had 10.5” of ice but it won’t take much to break it up. Looks like a big warm up next week.

Good Luck Fred.

By the way.... I was thinking about a fish I’d add to my list today. I’d have to add perch,  again to that list!!😁

Anybody ever try sheephead? I know it sounds nasty eating those slimy things but it might be worth a try once.

Also, did anybody catch a burbot this winter? I did not.

Satellite image showing where the open water was earlier this year. It will be interesting to see if that opens up first.

I may try one this spring. Here in Fl. The Drum are spitting images of them, maybe not looked upon as favorably as a Pompano but above a Whiting.

Our fresh water drum are very good eating but for their size you don’t get much meat I have eaten some smaller ones under 5 pounds that compared to eyes
