Let's just hope this brief warmup is just that and we don't end up in that up and down cycle...these few days of cold could make a decent base that could withstand that weather if the wind/waves aren't a factor

Actually compared to Western NY (30/40s) that forecast is not all that bad as the nights are still going to be cold. Of course a surprise deep freeze would really make everyone on here happier. Cya....

I love the  fear people have of lake Neatahwanta.... I won't lie theres  nothing wrong with it but I like the lack of competition

 Trapp I just realized we don’t need to be first on Oneida or the pond , I can remember being first on and last off ,
 But I am down to my last # of perch fillets from last winter 😱

Good luck to you guys as well !  Love hitting the skinny water early, will work our way to the big girl eventually. Got a good spot for gills, then at dusk the crappies come out to play. Good fire drill blitz to get warmed up....

Looking for some information on this lake.

I have never fished this lake on hard water and only 1 terrible trip on open water, so to say I am clueless of this body of water is a fair statement.

My siblings and I are looking at doing a weekend trip for my father. It would be with him, my brother in law, and maybe a couple nephews.

I have my own gear and can get some more from friends if need be. I am looking to either rent a pre-placed shanty, or hire a guide.

Does anyone have recommendations or thoughts on this?

There are no pre-placed shanties on Oneida, permanent shanties are illegal, and I don't know of any hardwater guides. Maybe somebody else knows of one.

My best advice would be calling a place like Apps, numbers I have are 315-675-6011 for the bait shop and 315-675-8334 for rooms. They have everything you'll need and will steer you in the right direction.

I couldn’t believe that perms are illegal on Oneida. So I just looked at the special rugs for there and says nothing about perms other then the same dec statement of reflective and name number and address req. so may I ask where you got the information that they are illegal on the lake cuz I know they are allowed on Ontario bays

they are not illegal some still out there every year just not many because the portables are so good now a days.......

That's the case near everywhere.  Perm shantys are few these days.
